Juneteenth is not just Black history; it is American history. It is a celebration of freedom, opportunity, equity, and access. We honor #Juneteenth not only through recognition but also as an opportunity to learn and grow as a company.  This week, our Black Employee Network Employee Resource Group will host a panel discussion, Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom and Resilience, for the entire firm exploring the history and lasting impact of Juneteenth while also addressing the current landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In addition to honoring and celebrating the remarkable strides and achievements of the Black community, we will provide resources for community members and allies who want to learn more and take action to promote positive change and progress. We encourage everyone to learn more about Juneteenth's significance, the complex history of the struggles faced by the Black community, and how to get involved in progressing equality in and outside the workplace. 

Attended the discussion presented by NLCUP "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Black History Month". It is so important to join conversations with panelists that know about the financial disparities that our Black/African American and Latin/Hispanic communities encounter on an everyday basis. There are so many takeaways, but I'll list the ones that outstand the most to me. -Be an unsolicited mentor. We all need mentorship. -Constantly document yourself. -Become the voice of those in need.  -For every yes, we give there is also a no. Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history marking the end of slavery in the United States. As a proud B Corp dedicated to social justice and equality, we honor this day by reaffirming our commitment to racial equity and community empowerment. Supporting Black-Owned Businesses: We’re committed to increasing our partnerships with Black-owned suppliers and vendors, fostering economic empowerment. Amplifying Black Voices: Using our platform to highlight stories, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals within our community and beyond. Continuous Learning: Encouraging our team and partners to engage in ongoing education around racial justice and history through workshops, training sessions, and resources. (We actually just finished an 8-week Racial Impact Improvement program offered through B Labs!) Setting and Tracking Goals: Establishing measurable goals for diversity and inclusion within our organization and transparently sharing our progress. Dame Linda's groundbreaking achievements in the legal field, including her historic appointment as the first non-white High Court Judge in the UK, underscore her unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion. At inKind, we believe in honoring the diverse histories and cultures of our employees and partners. For Juneteenth, an employee resource group came together to host a powerful panel discussion that highlighted the significance of this historic day and why it's essential to amplify Black and African American stories and experiences. The agenda included a catered lunch by Community Vegan which is a local Austin Black-Owned vegan food truck. We then played a trivia game that focused on black history, followed by a how-to-learn session that outlined guidelines for creating a safe space to learn. We were joined by two guest speakers Chris, from Ember, and Marlon, the founder of Community Vegan, for a fireside chat. They talked about how they honor their culinary heritage to help contribute to a sense of solidarity and connection, their personal stories, and how they celebrate Juneteenth. It's an opportunity to foster a sense of belonging and unity within our workplace, showing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. By listening to and learning from these experiences, we can work towards creating a more equitable and inclusive environment for everyone. It is a reminder that “nobody is free until everybody is free.” This day should be celebrated as the day when all Americans were liberated. It is a day to reflect, learn, and grow. Celebrate by supporting black-owned businesses. Educate yourself and those around you on Black History. On this day that we are celebrating love, I want to give flowers to Ericka Hines, JD, the writer of The Black Women Thriving report and founder of Every Level Leadership. https://buff.ly/3wjnCZp When I read Ericka's research report about Black women at work and what companies can do to ensure Black women thrive, it felt like it was one big love letter to Black women. This report does such a wonderful job of both telling the stories of our current reality and the harm it causes AND painting a picture of what could be different at work. The report calls on organizations and leaders to de-bias performance management and promotion process, provide more developmental access for Black women, and to unlearn harmful stereotypes that are the source of many of the micro-aggressions and discrimination Black women experience at work, among other recommendations. Ericka gives voice to the desire of transforming our workplaces where we can truly thrive. "Our lives outside the workplace are full of meaning, community, and joy. That is where we experience thriving. We deserve the same at work. Everyone does." I agree wholeheartedly. This #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm celebrating 29 Black women who have influenced me through the ways they pursue their own liberation. This Juneteenth, I am taking time to learn! I am celebrating the day as a symbol of a significant milestone in American history and considering what can be done to continue to improve our country's legacy. Reading the Harvard Business Review article “How Your Organization Can Recognize Juneteenth” was a joy and such a helpful resource for information. Here are my key takeaways on how we can honor Juneteenth in the workplace: Educate and Reflect: Share the history of Juneteenth and foster open conversations within teams. Promote Equity: Use this day to evaluate and strengthen DEI initiatives, supporting Black professionals and building partnerships with HBCUs. Active Commemoration: Engage in learning activities and support Black-owned businesses. Celebrate Intersectionality: Recognize and celebrate the diverse identities within our workplace to create an inclusive environment for all. By making Juneteenth a day of education and action, I hope to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
