Happy Fourth of July everyone! Enjoy the day! Enjoy our Freedom! Celebrate our beginnings! Be blessed. Here are five interesting facts about the Fourth of July: 1. Declaration of Independence Date: It was not unanimous - Rhode Island did not originally sign... The only hold out became the 13th state to ratify the Constitution on May 29, 1790, almost 14 years later and more than a year after Washington was sworn in as president. 2. Population at Independence: When the U.S. declared independence, it had a population of only 2.5 million people 3. Fireworks Tradition: Philadelphia witnessed the first Fourth of July fireworks display in 1777, marking the beginning of a cherished tradition. 4. Salmon Tradition: In New England, eating salmon on the Fourth of July is a longstanding custom. 5. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.
