Question for Gaming recruiters, I often see on offers "must have launched at least X AAA | AA | Mobile | Indie games (select relevant one) on job offers. As far as I can understand why this is listed on job offers, this is a result, not a skillset. The probability of having done this is very minimal, and it throws out a lot of candidates that actually have the skillset needed. Many people, me included, have been automatically rejected from job offers because of that specific point. But to me the important point should be: What is needed to do that Job ? For example, the skillset of a Producer is: - Excellent Project Management skills - Good communication - Be a facilitator for everyone (Problem solver) - Manage coordination of different types of teams (Tech, Art, Marketing...) - Budget management So if a candidate checks all this but hasn't launched a game, would you really reject him because he hasn't fully launched a game ? I am curious of what recruiters think of this. #gaming

You want to break into the video game industry? Here's how - Read the LA Times article below. Takeaways include: - "If you live in a big city, Reyes said, there may be opportunities to attend a gaming conference or festival. Some studios may host recruiting events" -"There’s also this notion of ‘lobby conning,’ which means you don’t actually need to get a pass for the festival because a lot of the networking actually happens outside within the hotel spaces or spaces outside of the conference itself." -"Smaller studios might not be advertising open jobs, but they could be attending those events because they are looking for talent." -"The faster you apply to a position, the faster a recruiter will see your application and potentially get it in front of a hiring manager.”

The barrier to work in games, starting from scratch, is typically what I would say around 6 - 12 months minimum. Again that's starting from scratch. If you can break past this barrier, you will be working in games! Which is pretty cool! - Make a plan that expects months worth of effort. Not weeks. - Focus on your schedule and how to stay consistent. - Pour just as much time into learning your on the job skills as you do learning how to job search effectively. - Keep in mind, there are many game adjustment applications that are very similar to games and develop in almost the exact same way. They are worth at least considering. Feel free to reach out to me for any thoughts, how I landed my jobs without applying for them, how I move quickly and efficiently in my career and how I've made my time in this career path very solidified. I know how to land roles, I know how to keep roles, I know how to excel at roles. And I'd be glad to help you break through whatever struggles your having! #gamedevelopment #enterprisedevelopment #jobsearching #jobseekers #tips

Hiring managers - think your clever trick or secret "test" like the screen shot below is a good idea? Think again. You are rolling the dice if you like to play mind games with jobseekers. Gambling, board games, & other games of chance can be fun from time, & possibly even profitable. However, it is not wise to play games with candidate’s minds by leaving them uncertain, anxious, & doubtful. If you are playing with minds, you are playing with fire. When you play with fire you will inevitably get burned. If candidates are feeling uncertain of their status, if candidates are asked a series of trick questions, then they may ultimately conclude that the same thing will occur on the job, & their interest in your company may wane as a result. #candidatexperience #jobinterviewtips
