You might not need the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. to tell you to make trailers which show gameplay ASAP, but this is a good opportunity to dive into the comments to read the frustrations lots of people have with game trailers! CG and animated trailers have their many uses that go far beyond promoting the game, but when it comes to making a gameplay trailer this advice is pretty much where I stand. #gamemarketing #gametrailers

Just mentioned this in a comment but it's an important point because a lot of would-be writers think there's a magic shortcut in using formulae like the Hero's Journey. There is no shortcut that will save you learning the actual craft of storytelling, folks. At worst, force-fitting formulae like the Hero's Journey will destroy your chance of creating something original. Story structures are real phenomena, but they're emergent from much deeper and simpler storytelling rules. Like any emergent pattern, they can be useful in analysis but I'm extremely dubious that they can be used for synthesis.
