GDC ´24 is in 8 weeks - i havent been to the US since before covid. so its time to attend again (and ofc with quite some colleagues from remote control productions and our partner studios:)). so who is up for a chat about making games together? i am also there to look for allies for Lesser Evil, to ponder if there is a need again to do EGBG (the event during crisis of our industry :)), talk with IP holders to bring them into games, find transmedia partners for some of our games incl. Saw this post from James Clear - and wanted to repost my comment here… I like this differentiation James Clear makes between setting goals and “True long-term thinking” i.e. developing and refining our ability to keep learning and growing. See “Finite and Infinite Games” (1986) by James P. Carse for an earlier source: Finite vs. infinite games… Carse summarizes his argument, "There are at least two kinds of games: finite and infinite. A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play. Finite games are those instrumental activities - from sports to politics to wars - in which the participants obey rules, recognize boundaries and announce winners and losers. The infinite game - there is only one - includes any authentic interaction, from touching to culture, that changes rules, plays with boundaries and exists solely for the purpose of continuing the game. A finite player seeks power; the infinite one displays self-sufficient strength. Join us Thursday, October 26 at 2:00PM in room 145 ComArtSci for a special talk: The Privilege of Play: Connecting Games & Race in the 20th Century, by Aaron Trammell, Associate Professor of Informatics at UC Irvine. "The histories of race and games in the 20th century have long been siloed. Popular histories of games often render invisible the race of the white men that they celebrate, thus inviting readers to take for granted the somewhat homogenous demographics of the games industry. Far from being coincidental, I argue that race has been central to the history of games. I will present historical research in this talk that shows how the early leaders of the game industry were able to thrive due to their community ties. I term these white communities "networks of privilege" and offer evidence for how these networks developed of the course of the 20th century and used dog whistles to keep BIPOC people out. Thus, in this talk I will foreground how the invisible politics of whiteness have shaped the history of games itself." Aaron Trammell is an Associate Professor of Informatics at UC Irvine. He is interested in how tabletop games further values of white privilege and hegemonic masculinity in geek culture. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Analog Game Studies and the co-editor for the Tabletop Gaming series at University of Michigan Press. He has two books Repairing Play (2023 MIT Press) is a theory of play that centers BIPOC people and The Privilege of Play (2023 NYU Press) is a history of games and race in the 20th Century.

So after about a week of the games release and feedback for Cora's Redemption, I have released a new PC version and adjusted the following: -Replaced "2D" text. -Changed all text colour to black so even easier to read. -Added additional prompt in statue in "Cyberpunk" level instructing the player directly where to go. -Added additional choice to statue in Lightning Wasteland to tell the player where to go specifically. -Updated some UI. -Added additional prompt on accessibility menu, informing player of where to go again. -Fixed the speed of Cora's melee attack. -Added new main menu animated background. Wanted to do this initially, but I ran out of time. Android will take a little while longer, as I updated engine version to 5.2 and I need to reinstall the SDK. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/eQZ6aCp9

A new lecture in the Course: "Introduction to Quantum Computing", has been published: https://lnkd.in/dAbjGRHk Lecture 14: The CHSH Game In this lecture we introduce nonlocal games, and in particular the CHSH game. It is one of the Bell tests that show the proper difference between quantum information and the counterpart classical realm. We game protocol is defined and we show that any classical strategy has at most 75% of winning. However, by going quantum, particularly, sharing and entanglement-bit between Alice and Bob, an 85% chance of winning is achieved. The instruction language is Arabic, however, all the material, slides, examples, definitions, concepts, etc., are all given in English.
