Hello! My name is Bethany Slone and I am a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, studying Cybersecurity and Information Assurance with a concentration in Digital Forensics. This summer, I'm honored to have earned a spot as a #FordIntern with the Manufacturing Cybersecurity team, where we’re working on protecting the Industrial Controls Systems Environment. I adore the problem-solving side of cybersecurity and aspire to work in a cybersecurity role at Ford post-graduation. My favorite moment from this summer as a #FordIntern is most definitely when I had the opportunity to co-host the fireside chat with Bill Ford! Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and weightlifting. Join me on this #InternTuesday as I take over the @FordCareers Instagram stories for a #DayintheLife of a Ford Intern.

Congratulations! Great educational and professional achievements ma’am. Being afforded the opportunity to not only speak with but to co-host and event with the CEO of Ford Motor Company is an awesome feat (PS My grandfather David Robinson Sr., is 105 living in Dearborn and was hired in to Ford Motor company by Henry Ford himself). Speaking with a CEO was very impactful for me as well. Focus: HOPE’s Center for Advanced Technology during its tenure afforded Manufacturing Engineering candidates the opportunity to interact with current and former senior leadership. I had a skip level meeting AAM - American Axle & Manufacturing Richard Dauch (back in 2003) which has had significant impact on my work ethic as he mentioned that the pillars of Aam are excellence in Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering and Product Engineering which caused me to take a closer look at departmental interdependency and focus on supporting each of the aforementioned departments with heightened sense importance regardless of the department that I was working in). So that appears to be allot of things about me, but if you treat each day as a job interview (I.E. give the maximum amount of effort that you can) and treat people the way you want to be treated and you will go far.

Congratulations, and wish you the best of luck, what a great opportunity!

Students in high school need to know about this area of specialty (cybersecurity). How can students connect with you, to learn about your experiences?

Hey Bethany Slone, that’s so cool! Congrats on the Ford internship – working in Manufacturing Cybersecurity sounds amazing. 🎉 Co-hosting a fireside chat with Bill Ford must’ve been such a highlight. I’d love to hear more about that experience! I’m also into weightlifting, so it’s great to see another lifter in the cybersecurity world. Looking forward to your #DayintheLife on Instagram. Enjoy the rest of your summer at Ford!

A handshake from the fire family must be enough to wash away all the other people in the states feelings on fair work and opportunities.
