📣 NEW analysis shows that the majority of care homes closed by the industry regulator are run on a for-profit basis. 804 of 816 involuntary closures since 2011 occurred in for-profit care homes. Patients who receive primary health care, including checkups, wellness visits, chronic disease management, are saving themselves emergency room visits and are saving the U.S. health care system money. Evidence shows that a strong foundation of primary care yields better health outcomes overall, greater equity in health care access and outcomes, and lower per capita health costs.* Federally qualified community health centers (FQHCs), the largest primary care system in the state of Mississippi, have clinics on main street, schools, or in mobile units throughout Mississippi. Highly qualified providers offer health care for all, no matter one’s ability to pay. ‘Federally qualified’ means federal funding is required by law for these non-profit health centers. They must have the support from the federal government to remain operational to meet these needs of rural Mississippi. That is why Congress needs to pass the Bipartisan Primary Care and Health Workforce Act S:2840 before the November 17, 2023, deadline to keep these vital services available. Reach out to your Senators, tell them you support Senate Bill 2840, and ask them to fund health centers immediately. Today, the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) has unveiled a groundbreaking policy report! They're pushing for a 100% Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) for services offered to Medicaid beneficiaries at urban Indian organizations (UIOs). Why is this so important? Because Medicaid beneficiaries account for 46% of our UIO Native patient population. Getting that 100% FMAP for UIOs is the key to expanding community health programs and youth services. Ultimately, it means better long-term health outcomes for our communities! Here's what Leonard Smith (Assiniboine Sioux Tribe), Chairman of Montana Consortium for Urban Indian Health and CEO of the Billings Urban Indian Health & Wellness Center, had to say regarding the state of Montana authorizing increased reimbursement rates for urban clinics: “I appreciate the Montana Department of Health and Human Services efforts and their willingness to work with Montana’s Urban Indian Organizations to enhance our Medicaid reimbursement rates.
