I am thrilled to celebrate my four-year anniversary with KPMG (KGS) It's astonishing how quickly time has flown by; it feels like I joined just yesterday. This past year has been particularly transformative, filled with numerous professional and personal changes and challenges. These experiences have been invaluable in shaping a resilient and growth-oriented mindset. In the corporate world, success is not merely about the knowledge you possess, but about your mindset—how swiftly you learn and unlearn, adapt, and continually seek better solutions. Here are three key lessons I’ve learned this year: Lead from the Front: True leadership involves presenting your ideas confidently and inviting feedback from your team. Instead of imposing your views, encourage juniors to share their insights and, when relevant, implement their suggestions. This approach fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment. Prioritize Work-Life Balance: Balancing work and personal life is crucial. It hones your time management skills, making you more effective and efficient. Additionally, it allows you to pursue hobbies and interests, contributing to overall well-being and making you a well-rounded professional. Embrace New Challenges: Never shy away from taking on new tasks, even if they seem daunting at first. Trust in your abilities and dive in with confidence. While you may need to invest extra time and effort, the growth and learning that come from these experiences are invaluable. Just returning back from Global Senior Manager Milestone training at Deloitte University - energized, humbled and impressed. I met amazing people from different EMEA countries, shared insights, and had some fun. Big "Thank you" goes to all my colleagues and our great facilitators Jenefer Morgan CA(SA) MBA and Jürgen Lademann for their insights, openess and mainly very honest Real Talk session. And special thanks goes to Martin Laws for a great and useful feedback on my unique value proposition. My key takeaways/thoughts to be reminded later on: 1. Perfect is enemy of good. 2. It is important to know what makes you stand out. 3. Do not start with a roadmap if you do not have a goal/objective in your mind. 4. Fishing for projects at the beginning of relationship is not helpful for anyone. 5. If you want to start start something new, you need to stop doing something else. Deloitte has transformed my career in several ways for the last 4 years: 1. I have been able to attend various training sessions and workshops, allowing me to enhance my skills and stay at the forefront of industry trends. 2. Exposure to Complex Projects: Working at Deloitte has exposed me to complex and challenging projects. I have been able to work with diverse teams and clients, which has broadened my perspective and helped me develop a well-rounded skill set. 3. Today, I completed 3 months at Deloitte USI!! From D-Launch to December Disconnect, my journey has been a kaleidoscope of manifold experiences and learnings. Here are my top 5+1 takeaways from my corporate journey so far: 1."Clear communication and specialisation are the 2 MOST essential qualities to grow in your career" 2. You are completely accountable and responsible for your own performance. Unlike university, there aren't going to be any warnings or pushes, instead there will be results and feedback. 3."Find an anchor", whether it's a mentor who supports you, or a goal which keeps you going. 4. "First impressions are not the only chance you have." Consistency and improvement are more valuable. Slow and steady wins the race! 5. Culture is a long term investment with priceless returns. A good team and approachable seniors can change everything you feel and experience at work! I'm grateful for my team🤍 Bonus Takeaway: Always raise your hand. A little bit of confidence goes the long way. I had the best time interacting with the leaders who were extremely approachable and wise. The secret to holding good conversations is having a general sense of curiousity and willingness to learn from someone else's life. Whether it's a leader with decades of experience or a someone from a different walk of life.
