From Analyst to CEO … 5 really short tips (writing this during a meeting break, pls forgive any typos!): 1. You’ll have to make sacrifices. There’s no shortcut. We must all dream big but you must wake up, work hard, and make sacrifices. The sacrifices may seem unending, but it’s only a season. It’s like farming; there’s a planting period and a time to harvest. Know that you must toil hard and sow the seeds that will eventually reap fruits of success in the future. Life is in phases. Don’t rush the process. A time to reap will come. Keep your head down, eyes focused, and work hard. 2. Seek counsel. I was chatting with my best friend today, and as we reflected on our careers, we paused to say a silent prayer for those leaders who invested and poured into us. Those leaders that were strict, tough - but meant well. Those managers who taught us the ropes and were there to push and stretch us - especially when we didn’t think we had it in us. We’re all surrounded by those type of leaders. Some people hide from them not knowing they’re shortchanging themselves. Go to them. Talk to them. Learn from them. Confide in them. Ask for guidance, and be humble to listen to their counsel. Those leaders who push us to become our best selves, seek them and keep them close. 3. Know thyself. Know what matters most to you. What are your core values? What would you trade all else for? If you don’t have your values, society will impose its’ on you. Without core values, you will yield to every distraction, bend to every trend, and drift and float this earth with no purpose. What are the non negotiables in your life? And how do you protect them? 4. Go the extra mile. There’s no substitute for exceptional work. It’s always easy to tell when someone has paid attention to detail. Are you known for being thorough? For delivering w/o excuses? For your dependability? In a world with so many uncertainties, leaders need people who are constants. People who constantly deliver, who show up. Those people will ultimately get spots on new projects, slots for new opportunities that give them visibility. And then it all appears that they’ve been lucky or favoured, but many times they’re simply the most dependable. They’ve built their “luck” by consistently showing up. Their track record of productivity continues to give them more “luck” and the cycle goes on. 5. Humility remains the greatest. I could spend all day on this one. Remain grounded, remain thankful, remain grateful, remain teachable. The skills that brought you this far will not always be sufficient to take you further. Acknowledge your gaps, fill those gaps, & continue this learning cycle. You are not the first to do it. There are those who’ve done it before and those who will do it after you. Surround yourself with people who will tell you the truth no matter what. Listen to them. Don’t get carried away by praise, it’s fleeting. Don’t drink your own hype & feed your ego Cheers to the best boss Tony O. Elumelu, C.F.R

Stories like this are thought provoking, and intriguing and evoke a sense of awakening for individuals to rise to the occasion of absolute responsibility in their prime places of duty. It is however noteworthy to see that Somachi Chris-Asoluka has committed 9 years of dedicated service to her organization—TEF. In my mind, I can only regard this in two different scenarios in analyzing the outcome of events. On the part of Somachi Chris-Asoluka — The young teeming lady full of ambition who joined an organization in 2014, may perhaps have had a strong background education about the organization and its leadership which may also have spurred her into a stellar performer. But of course, an individual who is well-groomed through mentorship can be able to stay the course. — I also think that informed her personality and speaks to her value system of perseverance, dedication, and hard work. On the part of the organization — The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) I like to think that the organization has laid the foundation for its workers to thrive in a corporate working environment devoid of the factors that stifle growth, and engender the creative expression of workers under their watch to perform with excellence. The role of true leadership sets the trend of excellence and true commitment in any workspace be it private or public. These attributes are transferable and inspire the dignity of labour, which is visible in the life of the staff of the organization. When leaders in organizations treat their workers right, justly, and fairly, and foster a healthy working environment with appropriate hygiene factors that encourages a high staff performance at their place of duty. The work space becomes a breeding ground for excellence and astronomical achievements. We will have a more sane workspace, void of abuse and brain drain which is the sad reality of many corporate organizations. They have normalized these unprofessional ethics in their various business outfits. Every worker can aspire for more and their chances should not be frustrated under any guise or circumstance. In conclusion, people don't just leave their places of work for no reason. They leave when the conditions for growth, and value they bring to the organization are not respected or appreciated. Our corporate spaces of work need to do better. The socio-economic nuance of the high performances we desire starts at your respective organizations, beginning from the leadership to the least departments. Let's amp up the good intentions to develop great people, healthy places of work, and by extension an inspiring ecosystem of thriving businesses in Africa.

There's nothing better than leaders with a disciplined view of succession. Giving your loyal stars the platform to play on fields you once did is a greater incentive than any "bonus" Remember, an employee will always think like an employee until given the choice to become more. Say less of "we are a family" and actually CREATE families. following Somachi Chris-Asoluka 's journey has been nothing short of inspirational 🚀✨ #leadershipdevelopment #putyourmoneywhereyourmouthis
