The more the merrier. Not this time. WATT wants to offer a one size fits all skateboard for multiple vehicle classes. WATT a mess. 1) EV powertrains need full sync with the rest of the vehicle design an specs. Tire size, rolling resistance, cDA, speced top speed, requested 0-60,…. One size fits all does not work. Unless you are willing to add another 10% more battery to compensate inefficiencies. 2) Looking at the three example cars and then considering that suspension design and geometry is the same for all of them: Bad idea. 3) While companies like Tesla talk about skateboards: There is really no independent skateboard. The cutaway models show parts of the chassis and BIW. But this only works in close interaction with the rest of the BIW. The trend is going into the opposite direction (more integration). And rightfully so: to save weight and cost. What do you think? Please leave a comment below. https://lnkd.in/ee6BuVUf

Do aerodynamic pursuits leave us with ultra bland looking cars? "The current crop of Mercedes EVs are not exactly known for any kind of angular styling, but the egg-shaped EQ lineup is at least low on drag. The designs are a major departure from the stiff shapes that Mercedes produced over its first hundred years. Thankfully, that departure may not be going on much longer." When the Mercedes-Benz AG EQS was released a while back I was very impressed with its ultra low drag of 0.20 cd, the World's most aerodynamic car at the time. I wasn't though much impressed with the 3 week old soap bar styling. I much preferred the Lucid Motors Air, which has an even lower 0.197 cd and Tesla Model S which has 0.208 cd. I don't think I would be going against consensus by saying these are both good looking cars. However, all 3 have noticeable styling points heavily influenced by aerodynamic requirements, which leads me to wonder whether our automotive future is a mass of blob profile cars. Indeed most that aren't will have competitive range and efficiency disadvantage. Will customers place their focus on styling or efficiency moving forward? Can an interesting looking car have great aero? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below #automotive #batteries #climatechange #electricvehicles #innovation #sustainability #cleanenergy #renewableenergy (Note: Total drag is a combination of 2 factors: coefficient of drag AND frontal area.)

Poised on the cusp of revelation, the nostalgia-laden Capri name is set to emblazon Ford's novel electric crossover, a forward-thinking move, confirming Ford's unwavering commitment to an electrified future. This soon-to-be-unveiled electromobile, sharing the Volkswagen Group's savvy MEB platform, not only teases the reinvention of a classic but is tipped to forge robust rivalry with established names like the Peugeot e-3008 and Volvo C40. Brilliance is brewing in Cologne, at Ford's Electric Vehicle Centre, where the Capri's ancestor, the Explorer, has commenced production. This facility, once home to the Fiesta, now glistens with a £1.6 billion refit, replete with advanced AI, over 600 robots, and 'digital twin' tech ensuring meticulous quality control. The Capri whispers saloon elegance with SUV flair, showcasing bespoke LED headlights nodding to the illustrious Capris of yesteryears, yet under its skin dwells technical parity with the robust Explorer, offering tantalising powertrains and considerable ranges up to 374 miles. Amidst technical marvels, it's the poignant design homage that fuels expectancy and promises a future as bright as its LED countenance. Inspired by the past, are you ready to be part of Ford's electric journey? How will the Capri shape your vision of electric driving? Share your thoughts! #ElectricVehicles #FordCapri #FutureIsNow 🚗⚡🔋

The AI generated Ford renderings made me laugh a bit (the article was picking on them), but read this article and you’ll see that Ford Motor Company is getting ready to go whole hog on PHEV and hybrid across its entire truck and SUV line. If they pull it off, they will drive some serious revenue, as everyone I know who is in the market for these types of vehicles (like me), is patiently waiting and does not want EV yet— due to towing limitations, lack of rural infrastructure, and cost. If interest rates drop, the market for these vehicles will absolutely heat up 🔥. The rumor mill is also cranking out speculation on an AWD hybrid Maverick for our Canadian friends and those in the northern latitudes. I’m still long on Ford, and slow rolling on EV, is the right move for them right now. Also, have you seen the amazing 2024 Toyota Motor Corporation Landcruiser? OMG — an amazing 4-cylinder turbocharged, with batteries for hybrid action. Gone is the gas-sucking V8. The design is gorgeous retro — those headlights and that grill 🤤. And then there’s this for 2025: an electrified 2.8-litre diesel powertrain with Hybrid 48V technology. Sweetness! Totyota is positioned to clean up across their truck line as well. Exciting times we live in! #trucks #hybridvehicles #ev #ford #toyota #practicalelectrification

When we think of transformative revolutions, we often imagine them happening in the blink of an eye, forgetting that real change takes time. As the EV market continues to grow and mature, remember we're in the early stages of a significant technological shift. Like the initial skeptics of the Internet and smartphones, the doubters will soon understand the EV revolution’s full potential. Speaking from personal experience, owning a Tesla has proven that the EV market is just scratching the surface of what's possible. Speed, automation, vehicle management software, less maintenance, convenience - the benefits are simply too great to ignore. For those still skeptical, take note of Chrysler Motors Corp’s recent unveiling of the Halcyon, a step forward for the brand into the EV landscape. https://lnkd.in/epjhRJWg Range anxiety might still pose a challenge for potential long-distance EV drivers, but advancements are being made every day to tackle this issue. Mass adoption might not happen overnight, but it is most definitely on the horizon. In terms of reports on EV demand slowing... The slower sales of fully electric vehicles should not be attributed to their lack of appeal, but rather to the current market conditions that are affecting the sales. P.S. Tesla’s commitment to extending the driving range is a central theme in the refreshed Model 3. The WLTP testing estimates the SR RWD version to achieve a range of 344 miles, while the LR version is projected to cover 421 miles. These figures represent a noteworthy 11-12% improvement over the previous Model 3’s WLTP ratings, suggesting potential gains in EPA ratings for customers in the US. Translating the percentage increase to EPA ratings could imply an approximate range of 300 miles for the SR variant and around 370 miles for the LR variant. Deliveries of the refreshed Model 3 are slated to begin in Europe in late October. While Tesla has yet to disclose delivery timelines for North America, pricing details for the region have not been revealed either. #electricvehicles #zeroemissions
