We want to build a Union where every generation thrives.     On World Population Day, we reaffirm our commitment to keep our Union competitive by managing its demographic change.    For this purpose, we created a set of policy tools to empower and support EU countries in addressing these challenges. These tools seek to:    🏡 Balance family and work life  🏫Support younger generations  💪Empower older generations and sustaining their welfare  💼 Address labour shortages    Together, we can embrace demographic changes and turn them into an advantage for all.    Learn more about our toolbox ➡️ https://europa.eu/!Wpk3qR    #EuropeanUnion

Spain's secret to once again having the highest life expectancy in the European Union is its climate, its exquisite Mediterranean diet, its public health system and being a fantastic country :D

The challenge for the future will be not only living longer but ageing in good health conditions. Some of the recipes to achive that goal: healthy food (olive oil consumption plays a role), a robust public Health care system (don´t forget investing resources in that), doing daily physical excersise, family ties to care about the elder, and Why not?, living as happy as possible

European Commission There is no such a thing as “labour shortage” 🤦🏼♂️ Please, stop this marketing nonsense based on lies. There are plenty of skilled workers out there… Put people in a favourable condition to work, with good salaries and benefits, good training to upskill, good support from management, positive work culture and ethos, a healthy workload aimed at avoiding burnout, etc… And you will see that the entire “labour shortages” narrative will disappear with a blink of an eye. Come on! 💪🏼 Upwards and onwards!

"We pursued a deliberate strategy of trying to lower wage costs relative to each other – and combined this together with a procyclical fiscal policy - the net effect was only to weaken our own domestic demand and undermine our social model. The key issue is not that competitiveness is a flawed concept. It is that Europe has had the wrong focus."

Not sure why data wasn't available for Ireland. 78.4 years for men, and 82.8 years for women. Average 80.6 Here's the link https://www.cso.ie/en/interactivezone/statisticsexplained/birthsdeathsandmarriages/lifeexpectancytables/ CSO (Central Statistics Office Ireland) is a fantastic resource for stats for Ireland
