Video games are for everyone! This Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Josh Straub, Editor-In-Chief “Can I Play That?” and lifelong gamer and activist, explores how video games helped him as both a hobby and therapy throughout childhood and into his adult life. Our new blog from Josh goes into his individual experience as he entered into the world of video games as a child diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and how that led to a PHD and a career in advocacy: #accessibilityawareness #videogames #AccessibilityAwarenessDay #GAAD

Is it Maya’s fault? Maya, a little girl, loved playing action-packed video games where strong heroes won using force and violence. The games excited her, and she spent a lot of time playing them. As Maya played more, she started acting differently. She became quicker to get angry and respond aggressively to things around her. At school, she copied the aggressive actions she saw in her games while playing with classmates and often got into fights. Maya's parents noticed these changes and became extremely worried about her behavior. •There is no doubt that in recent years we have been facing a troubling increase in aggression among children. Be it playground conflicts or classroom dynamics, there has been a visible spike in hostile behavior. This trend might lead us to ponder upon the factors that influence such behaviors. •Another deep rooted concern that goes hand in hand is the widespread availability of smartphones and streaming platforms which means children are regularly exposed to a lot of violent media content. •Video games, movies, and online videos often depict hitting, kicking, shouting as normal, potentially shaping children’s perceptions and responses to conflict. Could there be an underlying connection? #parenting #mentalhealth #children #LIPostingChallengeIndia

Play is more than just fun and games. It's a powerful tool for positive socialization. As children, we learn how to work together, follow rules, and socialize in groups through play. But did you know that we can continue to use play as adults to break down barriers and improve our relationships with others? Let's never forget the importance of play, no matter our age. #PlayForPositiveSocialization

Hello gaming community! Let me ask you a personal question? As a father I'm curious to know: do you set any limits on the amount of time your kids can play per day, per week etc.? We make games and want people to play those all day long. But as parents, how do you balance that. I'd be very interested to know! Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below please! #Parenting #GamingCommunity #ScreenTime #ChildDevelopment

👋 Meet Hugh, one of our incredible participants at Ignition Gamers! Diagnosed with ASD at the age of 5, Hugh's journey has been marked by resilience and growth. He's overcome challenges within the school system, and at times struggled with confidence and understanding his emotions. Through shared passions like video games, Ignition has provided Hugh with a supportive avenue to connect with old friends and make new ones. We asked Hugh if there was something he wished more people knew about autism and he told us: 'That it very much needs delicate support and care, but we aren't lesser or less capable; just with less support and care, it's harder for us to flourish and shine to the best of our abilities.' We couldn't agree more! At Ignition Gamers, Hugh loves the accommodating and friendly environment. Whether he's feeling talkative or not, he appreciates the freedom to engage at his own pace and simply enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded gamers. Curious about our community? Sport is a platform - especially at the youth level - to engage and educate on AND off the field. As noted LIVE on #WGN by Alma, who is an alum of the BODYARMOR Sports Series and now an elementary school teacher, the year-long programming around the massive event provides unique opportunities that other youth tournaments don’t. It’s easy to play games, it’s easy to run games. But sport is more than just goals and points scored, wins and losses. Why not expect more and want more from youth events - on AND off the field? #PowerOfSport #MoreThanJUSTGames
