International Women’s Day – Project Hug, Random Acts of Kindness ❤️ We all have days when we struggle, or we spot someone else who is having a hard time. Project Hug is reaching out to people through these little pocket hugs and worry worms to let you know you’re not alone. Project Hug started in the Defence Medical Academy in Summer 2023 and expanded to DMS HQ in Feb 2024 with nearly 2000 hugs having found a new home amongst staff and students. The feedback to these little acts of kindness has been overwhelmingly positive, “It sits on my desk as a gentle reminder to be kind to myself” – Anonymous Annmarie Lloyd, one of the Project Hug founders, said: “Anyone can succeed a little perseverance and support. And it’s the support that encourages and motivates you to realise your potential. Who knew that a little bit of wool would have such a profound effect on people, from picking them when they are low through to starting an awkward conversation about mental health” Bridget Vipond-Brookes, Project Hug Team Member adds: “I feel so proud of the impact Project Hug has had. I’m new to the initiative and already had the most incredibly moving feedback that further inspires me to promote the project and come up with new crochet hug ideas. I feel very privileged to be a part of this team.” Bridget describes how she demonstrates inclusive behaviour at work, sharing knowledge, being socially inclusive and considering others ideas and concerns, adding “and of course, baking cakes for everyone never hurts”. #Global news and actions from the #ebbf New York team Never has the need for local community action been more welcome, and connected with what is being learned and experienced by the global ebbf community. #ebbfmembers Emily Chew, Douglas Henck, Steven Hall, Saphira Rameshfar, Josephine Lau, and Roy Steiner report on their local activities in the global hub that is New York: “At ebbf New York we recently held two online consultations about influencing discourse using the ABS compilation, which created impactful conversations with participants. We plan to have an initial event mid November, a fireside chat with ebbf advisory council member Dorothy Marcic about her research work in management studies, followed by small group discussions based on specific provocations/questions (inspired by the format of several ebbf retreat sessions). A second proposed fireside chat focus area would be on de-escalating difficult conversations, likely for 2024. There is also a plan to host a 'meaningful careers' series targeting youth and early-stage graduates/young professionals, which we hope to hold in person. “ The ebbf New York team joins the diversity of local activities of other ebbf teams such as ebbf France hosted by Alex Cabon in Grenoble, ebbf Malaysia hosted by Yuet Mee Ho from Kuala Lumpur, ebbf Hispanos hosted by Mónica Martínez Vargas from Chile … More local ebbf teams are in action, creating inspiring, elevating, and safe spaces for the exploration of spiritually-driven learning and sharing.
