⚽️ A Journey from Underdogs to Champions... This summer, I had the honor of coaching a brilliant group of U12 football players. As a first time coach, our journey started with an exhilarating win! However, what followed were six challenging losses that tested our spirit, unity, and determination. ☹️ Team morale dwindled; some chose to leave, unable to bear the weight of ongoing defeat... and in one game, a player stood motionless on the field in protest, reflecting our collective despair. As a coach, I tried different tactics to keep them motivated, and most importantly, getting them to play for each other. 📣 I kept reminding them: "The season doesn’t define us; it's how we show up as a team when it truly matters. That's when we need to make it count." As the year-end tournament approached, other teams took a well-deserved break, but our squad chose to dedicate two additional practices. 🏋️♂️ But on tournament day, our challenges continued... 😰 Only nine players stepped onto the field, with no substitutes, facing fully-loaded teams. We were outnumbered but unfazed. What happened next was extraordinary... Our team, against all odds, displayed unparalleled teamwork and tenacity. They communicated, supported each other, and played with heart like never before, and our opponents were completely caught off guard. Our team's hard work and collective spirit turned them from underdogs into champions, clinching GOLD! 🥇 The true magic of this journey wasn't just in the win but in witnessing the group's amazing transformation. It wasn't about tactics or strategies; it was about a group of individuals who believed in themselves and each other, and never gave up. Their story is a testament to what resilience, teamwork, and an unwavering spirit can achieve -- whether in sport or in business, I've always believed that great teams win championships. 4-1 Win 3-0 Win 7-1 Win We’ve sponsored a local football club. Whistle FC is so far top of the league and the plan is for us to stay that way. It’s super important to involve ourselves in grassroots causes. Not only because it creates viral posts (fingers crossed) but it helps us to source hard to reach talent, which is our life blood. There are a lot of crossovers between being a succesful sports team and running a successful business, with three being: 1. Teamwork and collaboration 2. Training and preparation 3. Goal setting and performance management Lastly, it’s just a cool thing to do and having fun in business is underrated. ✌️⚽️🥅

Congratulations to Women's Basketball!! The 2023-2024 season will be looked back on as the year that took the Women's game to another level, thanks in large part to Caitlin Clark!!! She's definitely one of the GOATs and has cemented her place in history. It was also another opportunity to witness the greatness of Coach Staley! Coach Dawn Staley demonstrates fantastic leadership lessons on the regular. This interview following yesterday's Final Four Championship win showcases 3 lessons we can all learn from: ❤️ Psychological Safety: According to InnerDrive, "athletes in a psychologically safe environment are genuinely interested in their teammates, have positive intensions towards one another, as well as a mutual respect for others’ competence, especially when mistakes are made." South Carolina lost all 5 starters from last year and the bench scored 37 points in the final this year. No team had made it to the final without at least 1 returning starter and 37 points from the bench, the most in 25 years. Coach Staley was concerned about their level of "being free/loose" in the locker room prior to the game, but let this team be them and was willing to see what would happen when the game started. It didn't go well, so Coach and her staff made some adjustments to get them back on track. 🙌🙌🙌Publicly giving Credit where it's due: Coach Staley was quick to give credit to their new Asst Coach, Winston Gandy, credit for the scouting report and preparation prior to the final. "He was a difference maker." 👏👏👏Prioritize what's Most important: Coach Gandy did such a thorough job scouting that when they were making adjustments during the game, he provided the staff with so many ways they should adjust which caused a bit of overwhelm for the group. Coach Staley listened to all of them, but ultimately stepped in to have the team focus on Big Adjustments. Ultimately someone (head coach/director/VP/CEO) needs to make a decision when there are so many options on the table and get the team behind those decisions.
