When I use SingleStore I get spoiled -- large operations like adding columns, bulk updates, and full-scan queries are just so fast. I forget that people using other databases are not as fortunate. Jack Ellis of Fathom analytics demos AWS RDS MySQL side-by-side with SingleStore on both transactions and bulk operations and it is just ridiculous. Save something precious: your own time. Oh, and it's also less money. https://lnkd.in/dQN3VQ6P

Redis is a powerful, open-source, in-memory data structure store that offers efficient operations for working with lists. 👉 Here are some fundamental list manipulation commands: 1️⃣ 𝐋𝐏𝐔𝐒𝐇 (𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡) 📤 Adds one or more elements to the head (left side) of a list. 2️⃣ 𝐑𝐏𝐔𝐒𝐇 (𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡) 📥 Adds one or more elements to the tail (right side) of a list. 3️⃣ 𝐋𝐏𝐎𝐏 (𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐩) ➡️🗑️ Removes and returns the leftmost element from a list. 4️⃣ 𝐑𝐏𝐎𝐏 (𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐩) 🗑️⬅️ Removes and returns the rightmost element from a list. 5️⃣ 𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍 (𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡) 🔢 Returns the length of a list, i.e., the number of elements in the list. 6️⃣ 𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄 (𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞) 🔄 Atomically removes the specified element from the source list and pushes it to the destination list. 7️⃣ 𝐋𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐌 (𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐦) ✂️ Trims a list to the specified range of elements. Keeps only the elements within the range [start, stop], and removes the rest.

🐾Week 59: How you can use DuckDB for the data stored in S3?🐾 🤓Everyone heard at least something about DuckDB during the last several weeks, I’m not an exception. So I decided to give it a try and explore all the capabilities related to reading, writing, and creating views in S3. For those, who by accident haven’t heard about DuckDB yet, long story short: DuckDB is a SQL database management system, that allows you to decouple storage and compute. You can store your data in blob storage, create views for this data, and store it as a database in the same blob storage. While your data gets updates, your database gets updates as well. Moreover, you can use your laptop as a compute to query and process the data. Sounds interesting, isn’t it? Let’s dive deeper into how you can use it. Full post: https://lnkd.in/djcmKyjW __________ 💬 Anything you would like to add or ask? What a comparison done between #MySQL vs SingleStore by Jack Ellis (CTO of Fathom Analytics - the privacy focused analytics company - and #Laravel advocate)! Go check out the best alternative to Google Analytics : https://usefathom.com/ Key take aways : 1) Databases are not created equals. Don't compare 2 DBs on cost at equal computing power, what matters is the service your back-end delivers to you. In the video, S2 has less compute than Amazon Web Services (AWS) #RDSMySQL, resulting in 25% cost decrease AND runs faster. 2) Singlestore with NO OPTIMIZATION runs faster than MySQL with indexes (mind is currently blown 🤯). 3) OLAP are not supposed to be effectives at DDLs, SingleStore can do DDLs and is 18x faster at updates than a relational DB. 4) Deletes : 18 secs in SingleStore vs 1:14 minute on #MySQL. 5) Scaling is way better with SingleStore as you can scale horizontally. Love this Jack quote : "Scaling SingleStore to Petabites is just easy, you are never going to out grow SingleStore ". 6) SingleStore offers a no down time update experience ! Cheers Jack Ellis, awesome content ! We certainly appreciate what you do here!

Dynamically loadable C/C++ functions in PostgreSQL are awesome and make it the go-to choice over other proprietary databases such as MySQL. Plus, you can do extremely fast and customizable C/C++ triggers instead of choking up the database with high-level SQL triggers. https://lnkd.in/dUMvZaiP
