As painful and time-consuming as it is to put together the material, board meetings are important for the maturity and growth of your business.
They are a chance for you to look back on the quarter, and re-forecast for the upcoming quarter/year with board members who are looking at the company from a different angle.
If done correctly, the exercise of making the deck is a forcing function for you to reflect.
Each quarter, the agenda and goals for the meeting are different.
Some things to note about the perfect board meeting in Q4:
- CEO should own the executive summary and let the team own the rest
- Send out the deck and agenda at least 72 hours in advance. You can always make some revisions after sending it out if need be
- Review your operating plan for the year along with all the risks/upside in the plan
- There should be no surprises in this meeting. Make sure you are having pre-meeting calls to review the deck and main topics
Hope this helps! What else am I missing from a successful Q4 board meeting?
