📢 Big news in the world of democracy! USAID has just launched its new Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) Policy, aiming to elevate, transform, and modernize our approaches to democracy work worldwide. The #USAIDDRGPolicy outlines four key pivots needed to modernize DRG programming, addressing today’s challenges and promoting democratic renewal. We were proud to support USAID's DRG Bureau in rolling out this new policy and in fostering a growing global DRG community through our GROWTH Project. The dissemination event was a great success! Congratulations to USAID and the DRG Bureau on this significant step toward transformative change! #democracy #humanrights #governance #goodgovernance https://lnkd.in/gD_V72dd

“The populists are wrong. People care about democracy and human rights. They want action on climate change and inequality. They support overseas aid, and they want to see more safe, legal routes for refugees. Globally, they think high-income countries need to do much more to support lower-income states, particularly on debt. And there is broad consensus that developing countries should have a greater say in global decision-making.” - Natalie Samarasinghe, our Global Director of Advocacy: https://lnkd.in/eiKQ7bK4 Learn more about the Open Society Barometer and explore its results: https://lnkd.in/e_4Y-zTD
86% of people across the world want to live in a democracy. Yet, people are concerned about democracy’s ability to improve their lives. Our Global Director of Advocacy, Natalie Samarasinghe, shares the results of the Open Society Barometer, our annual global poll, which reflects people’s hopes and concerns around climate change, inequality, democracy, and more. 🔵 This month, Synergy for Justice starts a new set of training and mentoring programs with our partner, Amal Healing and Advocacy Center. Recognizing the importance of not only engaging women in dialogues on transitional justice but also having them lead the dialogue with other women, Synergy will train 45 women activists from different geographical areas to lead and facilitate community dialogue sessions in their own communities. Training will be conducted over the next four months, during which the women will learn more about human rights, International Humanitarian Law, the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, and community facilitation skills. Stay with us, and we will share more insights and updates from the program. #transitionaljustice #humanrights

An insightful report that UN Women contributed to, showing how victim-centered and comprehensive transitional justice measures can be powerful drivers for development. The link is very clear when it comes to gender and women's participation: gender-responsive transitional justice contributes to gender equality and, therefore, it advances sustainable development in and of itself!
