The first officer on my flight (DL944) from Detroit to Seattle on Delta Air Lines came off the plane prior to boarding and welcomed all of us to the flight over the loudspeaker. He then proceeded to hand out wings to the kids and talk with passengers answering their questions. As I boarded the flight, he personally welcomed me (and everyone boarding) to the flight. People have a choice when they fly and how you make them feel influences their decision. This pilot clearly understands that customer experience is in every employee’s job description. This is why I choose Delta. #CustomerExperience

Today at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, amidst confusion and uncertainty, I learned a powerful message - Trust God. Facing a flight delay due to a power outage, it felt like the world was ending as the B concourse was pitch-black dark (power is still not restored). As the situation unfolded, Delta Air Lines team members united to ensure passengers could continue their journeys by rolling out a manual process for boarding eventually boarding at 4:09p. This experience reinforced these gentle reminders as I feel that I’ve deviated a bit from them: - You can only control how you respond to life's challenges, not people, not destiny, and surely not fate. Let go! - Prioritize safety and pay attention to signs that protect you. You never know what you’re being saved from. - Embrace the journey, relax. How #flexible are you? We are on day 3 of a long journey. Yesterday the truck hitched a bit starting. So we ran by an Auto Zone - the battery is strong, but the starter is failing. Where do we find a shop who can get us in and not destroy our schedule? Plus it’s July 4th holiday week! My family remembers us moving ourselves once in the military with a UHaul. Every day was a new issue - starter, tire, muffler. The tire blew at 3:30 PM on 3 July in west Texas as shops were closing for the weekend. It took us 9-hrs to get it fixed but we were back on the road the next morning. We have a plan today and are executing our plan. Seeing John Knotts post today on big picture and specific tasks. We know what needs to be done and how we want to keep the vacation going. Timely! So again, how flexible are you? On the evening of 5th January 2024, a fairly new Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-9 MAX was flying from Portland (Oregon, USA) on a flight to Ontario (California, USA). It was still over suburban Portland, climbing just above 4,500 metres altitude, when one of the cabin windows/emergency exits and its holding panel separated from the aircraft, together with parts of one unoccupied seat (26A, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the aircraft. As the plane rapidly depressurised, a boy sitting in row 26 had his t-shirt sucked off him while his mother held on to him to prevent him being sucked out of the airliner as well. In a press conference on 10th January, the CEO of Boeing, David Calhoun, declared that the blowout on the Alaska Airlines aircraft had been caused by a “quality escape”. “Quality escape” seems like a somewhat trivial euphemism for a manufacturing fault that almost killed 171 passengers and six crew on an airliner. Maybe it's just the way my brain works, but I believe school boards and leaders can learn several important points about dealing with and avoiding crises from Boeing’s mishaps.
