At Eden’s La Muralla 1 Nursery in Cuero de Toro, Honduras, our team prepares germination beds by marking the exact area where each seed will be sown. This precise planting method ensures consistency by accounting for the optimal density of each bed and allows us to accurately track the number of tree seedlings produced. St. Benedict’s Monastery Snowmass, Colorado _____________ $150,000,000 3,720 +/- Total Acres Located just outside Aspen, Colorado, the approximately 3,720 +/- total acre St. Benedict’s Monastery represents the largest holding in the immediate Snowmass/Aspen area. The property sits in a picturesque ranching valley surrounded by the lofty peaks of the Elk Mountain Range. Known for its peace and privacy, the Trappist monks have lived and managed this idyllic ranch for over 68 years. Wildlife and cattle have co-existed for years, and the ranch and adjoining protected lands have retained the same natural habitat and rural characteristics today as they did when the monks first arrived. Most of the water rights owned by St. Benedict’s are used to irrigate the extensive Monastery grounds. The Monastery can irrigate up to 1,500 acres of hay fields, though, in a typical year, they irrigate closer to 1,200 acres. The St. Benedict water rights are typically reliable but depend on snowpack from the surrounding mountains. Most fields are irrigated by flood irrigation, but St. Benedict’s owns six side-rolled sprinklers that are capable of irrigating about 40 acres each. St. Benedict’s grows hay with this water, producing, on average, about 300 tons per year. For most of its history, the monks cut, baled, and sold the hay. In recent years, St. Benedict’s sold most of its ranching equipment and began leasing its fields to a neighboring ranch, which has continued to irrigate and grow hay on this property. This is our Faidherbia albida tree species at our nursery, today we would like to share the story behind this species, The growth of this tree in the nursery is very rapid and, ideally, seedlings can be outplanted after 2 months. However, due to many constraints, planting operations are often delayed and time in the nursery must be extended. In order to maintain superior root structure, we perform some hand activities like, pots must be shifted frequently, sometimes we do this for every 15 days in the later stages of nursery operations. We know that root coiling in the nursery is a problem with Faidherbia albida. The standard practice we do is to cut off the root coil at the bottom of the pot before outplanting, but this can hinder plant development. Root coiling and/or roots growing out of the bottoms of the pots occurs in the nursery as early as 18 days after sowing and requires pruning of or pot transfer. Today we are very happy when we see this trees are growing well join us today

Working with nature can be so exciting..
A journey of tree starts from a tiny seed. Every year, we collect seeds of native species from various nearby forests with the help of local communities. The seeds collected are then cleaned, catalogued and stored in a seed bank. Based on location where they have the highest chance of survival, the seeds are handed over safely to local nurseries where they are grown into saplings. Now, after nurturing them from seeds to saplings, they are ready to be moved. Just before plantstion, the young saplings are moved to a common staging area called depots, where they are kept in neat rows species wise and hill wise. The saplings will be stored and cared for in these depots and will be planted on the designated plantation sites considering rain conditions. This year, we are planting around 70,000 saplings in 600 acres of land in Chandwad block. Very soon these beautiful saplings will find their home! #saplingplantation #projectregreennation #natureandnuture #treeplantation
