With all of the issues we see in higher education, why am I passionate about collegiate esports? 1. It provides community and belonging 2. It’s the linchpin that has the capacity to change the rest of the industry by putting impact-driven people into esports organizations. 3. While you can name a ton of downsides, you have the chance to learn critical thinking skills during these years that you may not develop otherwise. My name is Kevin Schiphof, and I am 24 years old. I currently hold the position of co-CEO at Myth Esports. In my daily life, I am pursuing a degree in Software Engineering and am in the final year of my Bachelor's program. During my high school years, I developed a deep passion for gaming, with my primary focus being on the popular game, League of Legends. After school, I would regularly engage in League of Legends matches with friends and even participate in weekend tournaments dedicated to the game. While my competitive aspirations were limited at the time, I continued to avidly follow and appreciate the competitive gaming scene by watching live streams. Simultaneously, I maintained a balanced approach, enjoying video games at a leisurely pace while dedicating myself to my studies and future career prospects. It was during this phase that Twan van Vuren approached me with an intriguing project called Myth Esports. I took some time to consider his proposition and eventually eagerly embraced the opportunity, rekindling the dormant passion within me. As I began managing the League of Legends team in the lowest division of the Benelux, I couldn't help but question various aspects of our organization internally. I found myself asking, "Why aren't we exploring this idea? Why aren't we pursuing that strategy? Can we approach things differently?" Recognizing my potential and strong work ethic, I swiftly climbed the organizational ladder, progressing from Head of the League of Legends department to Director, and eventually reaching my current role as co-CEO, which I am proud to share with Twan van Vuren. My current responsibilities encompass overseeing partnerships, steering our organization's long-term vision, managing all matters related to the MOBA genre, and seeking fresh challenges in terms of player development. From setbacks to successes... My journey navigating the gaming industry reminds me everyday why milestones matter! 🎮 ✨ As a recent graduate navigating the labyrinth of the gaming industry, I've encountered my fair share of challenges and triumphs. While the path may be fraught with uncertainties, I think it's essential to hold onto the milestones and successes that have shaped our individual journey. One such milestone for me was the very first commercial game I worked on, "City of Beats." Despite the hurdles and setbacks, this project holds a special place in my heart. It was a whirlwind of creativity and learning, where I wore multiple hats, from conceptualization to community management. I poured my soul into every aspect of the creative development, from concept art to 3D modeling, animation, and marketing. Though faced with difficulties, securing funding with MFG Baden-Württemberg validated our hard work and vision. However, not everything was smooth sailing. I encountered setbacks that resulted in some of my work being cut from the final game. Yet, this experience taught me invaluable lessons in asserting boundaries and advocating for my worth. It was a tough but transformative moment that honed my resilience and professionalism. Transitioning to my second project, "Island Benders," was a breath of fresh air. It reignited my passion for game development and fostered meaningful connections within the community. Collaborating with colleagues like our Lead Developer Felix Voigtländer enriched my growth, reminding me of the importance of camaraderie in the face of uncertainty. Amidst these challenges, I often questioned the relevance of my college degrees in an industry where they may not hold much weight. However, I cherish the connections forged during my college years – thank you to all my mentors, friends, and peers whose support and guidance shaped my journey! In these unstable times, it's crucial to remember our successes, no matter how small, and draw strength from the community around us. Mobalytics is a company built by #gamers for #gamers, and is dedicated to helping players of all skill levels improve through data analytics derived from in-game performances. During my externship, I focused on #CallofDuty and #NBA2K24. I conducted in-depth research on game mechanics, key performance indicators (KPIs), revenue #models, esports, game communities, and player psychology. This allowed me to uncover valuable insights and identify potential opportunities for #market expansion.
