The incidence rate (IR) in market research is the proportion of participants from a sample group who will be qualified for the study a company is conducting. The qualifying rate is often mentioned in this context. The number of participants who are eligible for the study rises with a high incidence rate, enhancing its viability and decreasing its cost. Low incidence rates mean fewer people are eligible for the study, which makes it more difficult and expensive.
