Learn more about Dyslexia - always start your accessibility work by first understanding disabled people and the barriers they face.
First do no harm.
Keep in mind that when you present/purchase/plugin/install overlays that claim a font makes reading easier for people with dyslexia - you're actually doing harm to people with dyslexia.
That font is NOT going to solve for their Dyslexia.
Their reading (according to research studies) is not going to be better because you paid $49/mo for an overlay with a dyslexia font.
Dyslexia is processing disability not a visual disability about parsing which letters are which. Discerning letters is about readability of fonts.
And there is NO valid research that finds "dyslexic fonts" increase reading capacity or comprehension.
No more promotion of overlays with false claims against people with dyslexia.
First do no harm.
Thanks to Chris Holloway 🚀, CPACC for sharing this great video introduction to Dyslexia.

Amazing Things Happen: Dyslexia
By Amazing Things Happen Project
This animation was produced by the British Dyslexia Association and funded by the Department for Education. It seeks to preempt misconceptions among young audiences by shedding light on the real challenges dyslexic children face whilst also acknowledging their strengths and potential.

This REALLY interesting-sounding video, made not even a day ago, appeared in my YT feed, and I really do appreciate what this person's trying to do here, even with the limited number of examples they mention here (sometimes just from their own experience as a kid)! I love finding out from this video that PBS' WordGirl (2007-15) had writers who had previously contributed to Family Guy and satirical news outlet The Onion - that reminds me SO much of what organisations like Comedy Club 4 Kids (Tiernan Douieb) want to do by making popular artforms for adults like standup comedy accessible and appropriate for kids! 😄❤️🎙
I do notice today when it comes to the BBC that most animation, whether commissioned or acquired, is being geared towards two categories - CBeebies and Schools (BBC Bitesize & BBC Teach) - it DOES seem easier to make animation for preschoolers, compared with older kids (CBBC), because there is that much more creativity and a sense of imagination coming from that age group (I remember hearing from then-Children's Laureate Cressida Cowell that what's great is that they don't know the rules yet 🙂❤️)!
Just like how I always LOVE seeing what museums/attractions/zoos and educational companies (e.g. Now Press Play, Mrs Wordsmith, Embodied, Inc.) will do to get kids, schools and families excited about learning beyond the classroom, there are famous kid-friendly brands like Nintendo, Disney and Lego (ranked 6th, 8th and 13th respectively on Beano Brain's Coolest Brands from last year) who have a unique responsibility - it's always personally exciting to me that these brands can help introduce kids to school subjects like Maths, Art & Design, Geography/Nature, Storytelling (English/Drama), etc. 😊❤️🧮🎨🌍📖🎭

Grateful beyond words to be part of this transformative training program! Honored to have learned so much and grown in ways I never imagined possible. Here's to the journey of continuous learning and growth! 🌟 #2DAnimation#LearningJourney
What a great event at St Mary’s University (SMU) and the Colonel John C Robinson American Corner. A member of the first cohort of the digital animation training class shows off her completed project. Invited guests included H. E. from Ministry of Labor and Skill- FDRE, SMU President Wondwosen, the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS), Abel Tefera Balkew of STEMpower Inc and animation studios like G Media. The next cohort starts in the spring and will offer one beginner class as well as an advanced class for continuing students.
Your future starts now.
Having taught animation and motion graphics online for the last few years, I've seen firsthand the limitations of traditional course setups and tools. That's why, as part of the Saganworks product team, I've used my teaching experience to guide our decisions. It's been quite the journey, and I'm excited to keep fine-tuning our platform to make learning even better. Check out this video where I get share a bit of what Ive created.
