Company website blogs and resources often fly under the radar when it comes to education and inspiration. So I wanted to shine a spotlight on Instacart Design Blog that I unexpectedly dove into. In just a few days, I've delved into 5 articles that hit the nail on the head, covering topics like designing content with purpose, practicing inclusion in your design team and mastering conference talks. If you're looking for valuable insights and practical design advice, check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gseR8hSh (they've also got a Tech Blog). #JuniorFriday #DesignReads #DesignResources #SharingIsCaring #DesignCommunity

It's Friday and I am feeling grateful. I launched my portfolio recently and your support has been nothing short of amazing. The feedback you've all shared has greatly eased some of the anxiety I felt about the decisions that shaped my portfolio. I set out to create something that was not just cool, but a reflection of where I am in my career. The goal was to infuse fun into a website in a way that makes people pause and pay attention. The compliments from those of you who took time to explore the site have been incredibly rewarding. Now, let me share some of my favorite elements on my website: - The cursor: Who knew that such a small detail could bring so much life and playfulness to the act of navigating a webpage? When I visit other sites, small things like this are was captivate me the most. - Interactions: I poured hours into researching, building, and fine-tuning specific areas on the pages. The aim was to make motion an integral part of the design, resulting in a more fluid and captivating storytelling experience. And finally the quote "Genres are a funny little concept, aren't they?". To me, this was as a perfect representation of my work. In our industry, there are numerous labels for roles that are often quite similar - product design, UX design, UI design, and so on. But the truth is, these labels are secondary to the quality of work we produce. In my journey thus far, I've been willing to wear any hat necessary to ensure the final product is exceptional. I don't shy away from getting my hands dirty, and I learn new skills with each project. I embrace the ambiguity of my career because yes, I am a product designer - but my capabilities extend far beyond that. Until next time! 🤘🏾 #UXDesign hashtag #UserExperience hashtag #Design hashtag #Portfolio hashtag #JobSeeker hashtag #OpenToWork hashtag #CareerOpportunities hashtag #DesignCommunity hashtag #WebDesign hashtag #Tech hashtag #UXDesigner hashtag #DesignPortfolio hashtag #UXResearch hashtag #InteractionDesign hashtag #UIUX hashtag #HumanCenteredDesign hashtag #UsabilityTesting hashtag #DesignThinking hashtag #UserInterface hashtag #Wireframing hashtag #TechJobs hashtag #DesignJobs hashtag #UXJobs hashtag #DigitalDesign hashtag #CreativeIndustry hashtag #StartupJobs hashtag #FreelanceDesigner hashtag #ProductDesign hashtag #HCI hashtag #MobileDesign hashtag #LinkedInCommunity hashtag #Networking hashtag #ProfessionalNetwork hashtag #DesignersOfLinkedIn hashtag #UXCommunity hashtag #Collaborate hashtag #Connect hashtag #Inspiration hashtag #Mentorship hashtag #CareerAdvice hashtag #2024DesignTrends hashtag #FutureOfDesign hashtag #DesignEvents hashtag #UXConferences hashtag #TechEvents hashtag #DigitalTransformation hashtag #EmergingTech hashtag #DesignInnovation hashtag #NewWebsiteLaunch hashtag #PortfolioShowcase hashtag #RemoteWork hashtag #GlobalTalent hashtag #DesignWorldwide hashtag #LocalDesignCommunity hashtag #WorkFromAnywhere

✨Hi, I'm Dock, the Designer...✨ I am very proud (and also terrified) to present my portfolio to you guys. Take a look around www.dockscott.com, and tell me what you think! Feedback is more than welcome! Designing and building this site gave me the opportunity to learn, fail, start over, and ultimately fall back in love with what got me started down this career path 5 years ago. I was able to tell my story in a way that felt authentic to me. This was hard. I wanted perfection (I'm a Virgo), but in the end, I traded perfection for emotions. I trusted my gut and went with what felt good. Did it take a lot longer than I expected? Absolutely...but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Though there are imperfections, it may not be pixel perfect, you might even find a typo or two, when I look at my website, it feels like me. It makes me smile. It makes me feel confident as a person as well as a designer. Imperfections can be fixed, the site can be updated, but I can say I gave my all. This post is getting lengthy, so I will wrap it up. I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me, everyone who gave feedback, and everyone that inspired me to keep pushing myself. To some, this may appear to be a website like any other, but for me, this one is special. I have no idea what is next on my journey, nor am I sure all the work I put into curating this site will land me a job, but I do have a vision of where I want to be and this is the first step of achieving that goal. I believe in myself, and I hope you guys believe in me too. I have a lot more to share (I promise it will not take as long as the last time), so stay tuned! There is a little easter egg towards the end of my site, so keep your eyes peeled. 👀 So yeah, that is my work and I hope that you find something there that interests you. Thank you so much for reading. 🫶🏾✨ #UXDesign #UserExperience #Design #Portfolio #JobSeeker #OpenToWork #CareerOpportunities #DesignCommunity #WebDesign #Tech #UXDesigner #DesignPortfolio #UXResearch #InteractionDesign #UIUX #HumanCenteredDesign #UsabilityTesting #DesignThinking #UserInterface #Wireframing #TechJobs #DesignJobs #UXJobs #DigitalDesign #CreativeIndustry #StartupJobs #FreelanceDesigner #ProductDesign #HCI #MobileDesign #LinkedInCommunity #Networking #ProfessionalNetwork #DesignersOfLinkedIn #UXCommunity #Collaborate #Connect #Inspiration #Mentorship #CareerAdvice #2024DesignTrends #FutureOfDesign #DesignEvents #UXConferences #TechEvents #DigitalTransformation #EmergingTech #DesignInnovation #NewWebsiteLaunch #PortfolioShowcase #RemoteWork #GlobalTalent #DesignWorldwide #LocalDesignCommunity #WorkFromAnywhere

One of the greatest questions that confidence can afford you to ask is, ‘I don’t understand this.’ And one of the greatest gifts of working with founders is bringing their vision to life. It is based on a relationship of trust and respect on both sides. We partnered with STAK early in their vision to become the world’s first wealth exchange for professionals servicing ultra-high-net-worth wealth. STAK addresses this demand by providing a curated network of verified industry experts, enabling advisors to access top-tier talent beyond their immediate network. We embedded ourselves so deeply into Stak’s business that they still consider us part of the team. Working alongside Jake Willis, co-founder and product owner, we invested heavily upfront in de-mystifying how the industry operates to peel away the layers of complexity. Working in monthly design sprints, we created a Figma design system and component library to rapidly hand off UX and UI designs to Stak’s in-house development team. We call ourselves the outsourced in-house design team, and you can find out more about how we worked with Stak in our latest case study. https://lnkd.in/eSn4bZTd #designsystem #productdesign #founders

"Excited to announce my first client project post-bootcamp, where I'm blending innovation with functionality. Collaborating with a CPA friend launching her startup, I'm diving deep into the tech stack of Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and React Icons, with a creative twist of video-art integration for dynamic UI effects. Shifting gears from conventional multi-page layouts, I'm going to be exploring the seamless flow of a single-page application (SPA). This approach not only challenges my design perspective but also enhances user engagement with a cohesive narrative. A key focus is the development of an intuitive client-portal. Integrating Dropbox for efficient file management is part of this endeavor, ensuring secure and user-friendly client interactions. My goal? To engineer a polished UI/UX that not only informs but simplifies the user experience. This project is a perfect blend of technical skill-building and practical application, aiming to deliver a product that stands out in both functionality and aesthetics."

It's interesting to see how similar the design systems of Doordash and UberEats have become. It feels like everything looks the same these days, which was not the case a decade or so ago. Back then, designers were visually creative and came up with solutions that stood out. But is this a lack of creativity? Limiting tools? Or are we losing the art of visual design in order to compromise for accessibility and usability? Maybe it's all of the above? What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed a shift in the design landscape?

Attended my first London coffee morning by Figma & Tesco with Diane Larsen & Luis Ouriach discussing my favorite topic: how to approach #designer & #developer collaboration in #product teams . Key takeaways that stood out to me: → Treat your design system as an internal product. → Accessibility improvements should happen throughout the product lifecycle, not only in the design phase. → Storybook to the rescue 🚀

🌬️❄️ Embracing the Chill with Creativity! ❄️🌬️ Hey LinkedIn family! Over the past few days, the winter has taken a surprising turn. It's so cold that even our water is turning into ice almost instantly – talk about a natural freezer! 🥴😅 But, guess what? This unusual chill became a source of inspiration for me. I decided to channel this 'frosty challenge' into something creative. Using variables in Figma, I quickly whipped up a project that truly reflects our icy situation. 🥶🥶 This experience was a fun reminder of how spontaneous challenges can spark innovation. It's all about perspective – a sudden change in weather turned into an opportunity for creativity! Stay warm and innovative, everyone! ❄️💡 #WinterWonder #Creativity #DesignThinking #Figma #Innovation #UnexpectedWeather

Yesterday’s news about InVision closing down at the end of 2024 is another text book example in mismanagement and whilst finding product market fit is hard, staying fit is even harder. At the time InVision had the world at it's feet, a great product filling a huge gap, exponential growth and little competition…I for one, freakin’ loved InVision - we all did it. But man, how that was short lived. It was obvious that their core product was going to become redundant as soon as Sketch and Figma started adding basic prototyping features, but they never did anything to improve it. Studio was meant to be the solution. But how badly handled was that whole episode? Surreal almost. So much promise, hype and excitement and then…well…nothing. When the beta finally dropped it was clear it was not really fit for purpose. Instead they spent what must have been millions on content marketing and event sponsorships leading to a series of underdeveloped, hastily released apps that failed to resonate with users, and were quickly abandoned…because they were underdeveloped and hastily released. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that talking AT your community rather than WITH them - (something Figma were/are great at) is wasted effort; ignoring continuous discovery just leaves you constantly playing catchup. Like Einstein once said “the moment you stop learning you start dying”. Harsh, but in business it is true. What baffles me is that InVision was supposed to be a design led company - for designers - but ultimately it failed to follow basic design principles. understand, iterate, learn, improve. Overlooking what should have been at the heart of their operation, and seen them thrive. It’s always sad to see a company shutter up but it underscores the importance of staying attuned to market changes, engaging genuinely with your user base, and remaining committed to continuous discovery and improvement. It’s not just about launching a groundbreaking product; it's about evolving and adapting that product to stay relevant and useful. InVision's downfall serves as a cautionary tale for any business striving to not only reach but sustain market success. #continuousdiscovery #ProductDesign, #UserExperience #TechNews #DesignThinking #Innovation #StartupLessons #DigitalDesign #TechTrends #ProductManagement

📊 The double-edged sword of retail engagement In a market landscape increasingly shaped by individual retail investors, companies are discovering a powerful, yet double-edged, phenomenon: Retail is an amplifying force on momentum for your share price. Let me humour you with a visualisation of this post that stretched my Figma skills to their absolute limit... 🔺The green line: Engaged retail (individual) investors: When engaged, retail investors can catapult your share price to unprecedented highs. Their collective buying power, magnified by social media influence and online platforms, can significantly reinforce positive momentum. 🔺The dotted purple line: Disengaged retail (individual) investors: Conversely, the lack of engagement can amplify negative market conditions, pulling your share price down faster and further than institutional investors alone. Market conditions set the stage, but it’s the retail investors who often steal the show.

Something special happened yesterday. We received an official letter from the UK Intellectual Property Office—complete with 13 digits and a big, fat confirmation... 🎉 Those 13 digits? They're our trademark for Scoops 👀. But why are they more than just numbers to us? Because they symbolize the extensive investment and effort we're dedicating to making the Scoops brand a significant differentiator for us, our products, and our customers. It's not just another 'tool' we're building. We want Scoops to become a brand people care about. Back in 2013, when I co-founded P&Co, it was all about building a brand from the ground up, centred on community and creating remarkable experiences. It wasn’t easy. Every challenge taught us invaluable lessons about our audience, resilience, and the essence of branding that resonates and sticks. Today, with Scoops, it feels like coming full circle. This trademark isn’t just a formality. It’s a promise—a commitment to continue pushing boundaries, innovate, and connect brands with their audiences in truly meaningful ways. The attached screenshot from our Figma board illustrates just how deeply we dive into every detail of our branding design alone... 👀 Here’s to new beginnings, brave ideas, and building something truly remarkable, and congrats to the team for making this happen (Toby Bushell Sam Judge). #Scoops #GetScoops #HypeRealInsights #Research #CustomerFirst #CustomerReserach #Trademark #BrandBuilding
