Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom and a Call for Progress As we celebrate the delayed emancipation of enslaved people in Texas this Juneteenth, it's crucial to remember the historical context. The fact that Black Texans weren't informed of their freedom for months after the Emancipation Proclamation highlights the systemic barriers Black people have always faced in America. I didn't learn about Juneteenth in school when I was growing up. It was later on in college that I fully understood the history and what it meant. As a Black man in tech, Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of resilience and the fight for equality. It motivates me to push for a more inclusive tech industry where Black talent is not only valued but actively fostered. The tech industry thrives on innovation. To truly move forward, we need diverse perspectives and experiences at the table. Juneteenth serves as a call to action for the entire industry to dismantle barriers and invest in creating a more equitable space for Black professionals and professionals of color. Let's use this occasion to celebrate Black achievement in tech and recommit to building a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. #Juneteenth #BlackInTech #EqualityInTech

To celebrate Black History Month, we’re highlighting organizations that have been pioneers in the American struggle for civil rights. Organizations like the National Urban League, which was founded in 1910 as a response to the challenges African Americans faced migrating to urban areas in search of better opportunities. Initially focusing on job placement and housing, the organization has evolved to tackle systemic issues of inequality and injustice. Today, the National Urban League continues its vital work, advocating for civil rights, economic empowerment, education and social justice. Honoring Haben Girma: A Trailblazer at the Intersection of Accessibility and Advocacy This Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on Haben Girma, a figure whose pioneering work has significantly impacted the digital accessibility landscape. As the first Deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School, Girma has transcended barriers, championing inclusivity and accessibility in technology and beyond. Girma's journey is not just a story of personal triumph but a clarion call for the tech industry to prioritize accessible design. Her advocacy underscores the essential truth that digital environments must be built for everyone, embracing the full spectrum of human diversity. Through her consultations with tech companies, legal advocacy, and inspiring public speaking engagements, she has been a driving force in promoting the importance of integrating accessibility from the ground up. Her achievements, recognized by her designation as a White House Champion of Change, resonate deeply within our mission at Zenyth. We are reminded that accessibility is not merely about adhering to standards like WCAG 2.2 Level AA, but about fostering a digital world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and benefit from technology. As we celebrate Black History Month, let's draw inspiration from Haben Girma's work to renew our commitment to creating more inclusive digital spaces. Her legacy teaches us that when we design with everyone in mind, we unlock the potential for innovation and inclusion that benefits us all. The world continues to be more divided regardless of all acclaimed celebratory events that show us how to live more harmoniously and united. The Black History Month clebration comes a close and has been celebrated across many countries, communities and organizations. This year, HOK brings its team members together to show some appreciation and support for the black community and their heritage to discuss design stories, identities and perspectives. This corporate action is very symbolic and important so that more black professionals in the design and architecture sectors feel valued and cared for and continue to serve in the advancement of their professional career development… However, it is paramount that they can contribute to build their own communities with large scale projects in high growth sectors when there are new proposals. We are so proud of Kendall Turner, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, Nneamaka Amadi, Ralph Raymond, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, and Benjamin Crawford for being the most influential and successful in their respective fields and we hope that they can advocate towards inclusive economic development across the least developed countries and build some modern and urbanized communities to uplift and strengthen economic prosperity and social empowerment. We truly appreciate that HOK is giving them more professional support and visibility to build a more equitable environment because celebrating diversity is a huge step toward success, healing, and growth . #civicengagement , #civicengagementcollective, #civicresponsibility , #civiceducation , #civicleadership https://lnkd.in/eZhjKh7x
