One hopes the EV Battery Management system has 1-0 or % 'Bit' for charging with Green-sourced EV Power in its Software. Such Software Upgrade, that fed its cumulative records automatically into Google Monthly Trip Updates, Freight Management Software, and Transportation Databases, combined with Green Hydrogen EV Power Bundles, would obtain Public Sustainability Organizations and Private entities, the data they need to calibrate Green Subsidies and EV-Charging Pricing plans. With the EV Revolution entering the high-mileage Bus sector, this simple Software enhancement would interrupt Green Bond-funded Buses that might instead operate on Plastic-sourced EV Power. Let's anticipate Private incentives that operate in the cover of 'Plastic Circularity'. Lest Green Investors who poured Billions of Dollars in to Green Bonds find themselves culpable of worsening Climate change ! https://lnkd.in/ghPaSVMr

The road transportation sector represents one fifth of the EU's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. According to the IEA, to get on track for net zero emissions by 2050, CO2 emissions from the transport sector must fall by more than 3% per year to 2030. Industry largely relies on commercial fleets to transport goods, traditionally powered via conventional fuels. I am proud of the part we, at VARO Energy, play through our e-Mobility strategy, to help decarbonise commercial road transportation by accelerating the electrification of commercial fleets. A great example of this is the new e-truck charging hub - Antonie Bodaanweg (Waalhaven) - in the Port of Rotterdam, inaugurated earlier today. Initiated by the Port of Rotterdam and Truckparkings Rotterdam Exploitatie BV, this is the first of its kind in the heart of logistic Rotterdam and Europe’s largest port. VARO Charging is proud to have partnered with Truckparkings Rotterdam, a market leader in secured truck parking, to operate this charging site. Offering a 24/7 charging solution, we ensure a sustainable energy supply for all battery-electric heavy-duty trucks and coaches. This is enabled via the software of Road, a key e-Mobility European company in which VARO holds the majority stake. I would like to extend my thanks to the VARO teams that contributed to make this happen and especially to Sacha Konan, Country President Benelux, Florence Lebeau, our Brand Strategy Director and our e-Mobility colleagues Ruben Benders, Taco van Berkel, Stefan van den Bos. This is another milestone in our growing e-Mobility business which is playing a leading role in partnering with customers to decarbonise mobility.

Investing in the future of road transport: 5 considerations to navigate the decarbonisation challenge as a GP 🛣️ The road transport sector is a point of interest not only for transport portfolio companies but more broadly for almost all investments, as it constitutes a significant scope 3 emission hotspot. Despite the rapid evolution of low-carbon technologies for Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs), engaging with transport portfolio companies on decarbonisation remains a complex task for GPs. In my role as a sustainable finance consultant at INDEFI, I delved deeper into this issue and identified 5 key considerations that should be part of any resilient investment strategy within road transport: 1) Total cost of ownership and price parity While passenger Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Europe are expected to achieve cost parity with internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE) within the next two years, the timeline for HDVs might stretch to 2032. TCO is a key indicator to evaluate for GPs, as fuel cost volatility, battery innovations and production cost decreases are significantly altering the learning curve of alternative vehicles. 2) Infrastructure and public policy While the infrastructure for EVs in urban areas has rapidly evolved, the picture is different for HDVs in more rural areas. Investors should monitor the EU’s policy progress, especially regarding the spatial distribution of charging stations across key highways and hubs (e.g., in number per km). 3) Technology competitiveness Unlike passenger vehicles where Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are a clear choice, HDVs pose unique challenges like battery size, autonomy, and specific infrastructure needs. However, the alternatives like biofuels and hydrogen vehicles seem hardly scalable which is why we believe BEVs to remain the most competitive alternative and encourage fleet managers to focus efforts on BEV investments. 4) Fleet supply planning With road transport being included in EU ETS-II (EU Emissions Trading System) from 2027, we expect a surge in demand for low-carbon HDVs by the end of the decade. To anticipate supply shortages and meet decarbonisation targets, investors should proactively start to drive fleet transitions, ensuring a smooth shift. 5) Operating model adaptation and electrification Beyond transitioning the fleet, adapting day-to-day business operations, such as route planning, truck loading and charging schedules, is equally vital. Regular engagement with management and operational teams is crucial to ensure this adaptation. As an investor, which of these considerations are already on your radar? Are there additional factors you find equally significant? Let's exchange insights and best practices - feel free to comment below or reach out to me directly. #SustainableInvesting #RoadTransportInnovation #Decarbonisation #EsgPrivateEquity
