Your leadership promotion becomes inevitable when you stop making these 3 mistakes: The “Fixer” Superwoman 🦸🏾- Being a fixer can get you a lot of brownie points, and promotions on your way to manager level. But the truth? Fixers remain as fixers - managers who are just really good at executing, and focused on short-term problems. When you are known for a very specific leadership trait, you’ll create more opportunities to showcase your readiness for the leadership position... The Workaholic 🤷🏽♀️ - You have probably heard this phrase a million times, but it’s still one of the things you’re doing that is holding you back from a more senior position of leadership in your career. Hard work is a necessary part to being succesful, but it’s not the reason why you’ll get the promotion. When you elevate your inner identity & start to become known for one very specific thing that will give you the edge as a leader, your promotion will become inevitable…and you'll have the leverage to negotiate the promotion you deserve for your hard work... The “Believe it when I see it” Gal 🤔 - You don’t believe you have what it takes & all your belief is dependent on what others think of you. You tell yourself you’ll believe it when you see the promotion letter but deep down you don’t believe you deserve or qualify for it. Your promotion to senior leadership is way more of an energetic and mindset thing than a strategic power play. The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) has released key findings from our survey: Special Report: Insights and Advice on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Top Black Executives in Corporate America. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eMGRzqVB Despite rising challenges, our survey highlights a solid commitment to DEI among top Black executives, providing valuable insights and strategies for success. Key findings include: ✅ Treating DEI like other business drivers. ✅ Implementing clear measurement mechanisms for DEI strategies. ✅ Remaining steadfast in DEI support despite opposition. Nearly 72% of respondents felt their companies' commitment to DEI was strong. However, 36% reported a reduction in vocal DEI support. Nurturing leaders 💥   Just 3% of C-suite executives in the technology sector are Black, as revealed by a McKinsey analysis of Fortune 500 executives from February '23.    By 2032, tech roles are set to grow by 14% across industries. But the rise in Black tech professionals in these areas is predicted at only 8% for the same period. Contrary to what everyone is telling you to do, my leadership promotion strategy starts with teaching you who you need to Become… For 4 years straight, put it tons of work hours, sacrificed time from my family, outperformed everyone I thought I was competing with… And still I couldn’t get them to give me the promotion… I was 100% responsible for the results I had… My identity was not a match with the title I wanted, and I kept on focusing on the things I was doing, without pausing to assess whether I was truly embodying the leader I wanted to become. I had outgrown that identity and it was time to become the director in my thinking, the work I could choose to prioritize, the work I delegated, the language I used and the woman I was being to my team, my colleagues and my leaders. I chose to rise into the leadership seat, before I was called to take a seat. I chose ME every single day. The leader I knew was, not the score sheet that dictated whether I would be promoted or not… When you elevate your identity, you start to move different. Your thoughts and feelings become aligned to those of the leader you want to Be. You’re not moved by the statistics, the KPI scorecard or the fact that you’d be only black woman in the room. You’re moved by your vision and the impact you’re going to make as you rise into the next level of leadership. You’re moved by the lives you’re going to change and the people you’ll inspire as the black woman who’s leading with so much soul.
