Hey there! First things first - we are #hiring , so if you for one or another reason are looking for a new job, you may want to take a look at this post 👇 Red Rover Interactive has a mission: to transform multiplayer gaming by unlocking the full potential of social interactions. In other words - engage the players by allowing **them** to create the narrative and social drama. That's what #projectcoltrane is all about: players wake up aboard a massive train roaming a post-apocalyptic earth - if they want to survive, they are forced to make alliances and sometimes betray them in a race to breach the engine. We are also set out to do things a bit differently: we want a product that is fun for the players, and as such we are committed to involve them every step of the way. Our first employees started only 9 months ago, and after only 5 months we already had our first external playtest with actual players from the target groups we are aiming to for. Now, we have something that is fun. Yes, it is still a prototype, but soon it will be so much more! By the end of 2023, we invited a bunch of the biggest streamers in the survival space to play our game in our first ever Conductor Games. The result was an incredibly fun experience for both devs and players, and a lot of useful feedback! In fact, it went so well that we have decided to do it again, with everyone in the community (see video below). As of now, we have an early prototype that is streamable and competitive and can be played for hours on end. We do need more people going into production though, and not just anyone: we need people who aren't afraid to be bold and who can come up with innovative solutions, and we need people who are ready to jump on the MVP wagon and who are tired of long and slow development cycles. For now, we need an #animator to own our animation pipeline - someone hands on, creative, and technical - and we need a Combat #designer to create engaging moment-to-moment gameplay. Well, it's been about a month of applying, learning and networking, but in this job market, it's hard to get a bite. At this point, I keep thinking that I set myself up for failure since the beginning of my dev career. I chose to specialize in VR/AR/XR with Unity about 6+ years ago, and at the time, made perfect sense! Immersive tech was beginning to grow, Unity was pushing for VR and AR devs, Niantic, Inc.'s Pokemon Go introduced AR to millions of fans, Facebook became Meta....everything seemed to be lining up! So I dove in head first, switched careers, learned as much as I could, and was able to find jobs creating what I loved! Then came the slump. Hardware wasn't selling, interest waned and companies started gutting immersive divisions since the ROI wasn't there. Not enough short term gains to justify the research (in my opinion, I'm not in the meetings). Now here I am, a developer with specialization in a section of the tech industry that feels forgotten. But who am I to complain? I could be worse off. What I really hope to get from this post is some advice, and that's why I'm reaching out to my LinkedIn community ❤️ How can I continue doing what I love when no one's hiring?
