Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

🔵 The phrase “transitional justice” is, perhaps, one of the most frequently used terms that is largely incomprehensible to people outside of the justice sector.
Transitional justice work encompasses a wide range of activities aimed at furthering society’s ability to come to terms with the history and impacts of large-scale conflict, repression, and human rights violations.
Transitional justice aims to provide recognition to victims, survivors, and families; to rebuild the trust of individuals in state institutions; to reinforce respect for human rights; and to promote the rule of law, all as critical steps towards reconciliation and the prevention of new violations.
Find out more about the five pillars of transitional justice and Synergy’s recent work in the area in our May blog post: https://lnkd.in/dpYZZTii
This should be a topic of national discourse in the presidential campaign.
40 ACRES AND A LIE.
Let's have a national conversation about an extraordinary issue that covers socialist economics, white supremacy & systemic racism: the misuse of American government power to rob 8 generations of Black Americans while rewarding White supremacists who abused Black Americans with generational wealth.
This systemic robbery and abuse didn't magically disappear because it has been banned from being discussed in schools, churches & politics. As a country, we continue to pass to each generation unresolved issues of the past. We also pass forward the problems that continue to worsen while the solution gets more complicated.
We inherited the conditions that previous generations created. Will we address these problems and seek to resolve them or simply pass them on to future generations?
Let's listen and discuss.

Discover the chilling reality of 'denied access' spies, operatives in the intelligence community who undertake missions with no official backing - meaning no recognition, no Geneva Convention protection, and no hope of government support if compromised. Highlighting the extreme isolation and danger faced by these spies, our latest feature dives into the murky world of espionage where the only lifeline is their grit and resourcefulness. With insights into the clandestine operations that shape global politics, this expose sheds light on the unsanctioned yet impactful roles such spies play.
The REEDU Project, funded by the European Union, aims to enhance acquisition of social competencies and promote the fundamental rights and values of juvenile offenders through innovative rehabilitation measures. Supported by an ongoing partnership with IACFP Europe, the Project uses techniques such as positive criminology, project-based education, and systemic approach in direct involvement with families and significant others to guide juvenile inmates towards more successful reintegration into society.

I have been doing work across the country with communities that have had racially-motivated conflict.
Sometimes it’s students who are harassing each other online; sometimes the verbal and/or physical attacks are in person. Almost always, there’s an adult dynamic at play in community as well.
This year we have seen more anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation across the nation than ever.
As an educator, I’m watching Secretaries of Education forbid the teaching of AP African American Studies or make any mention of race or gender “ideologies” illegal.
Last week in Florida, a young White man wrote 3 anti-Black manifestos and then took a gun with a swastika painted on it to an HBCU hoping to kill Black people. When his plans to attack there were foiled by a student and security, he drove to the Dollar General, killed 3 Black people and then killed himself.
Please listen to this TED Talk, because it’s both a warning and recommendations for what we can do to avoid a civil war.
Why am I posting here?
Because her solutions involve education and engaging the business community.
As educators, we need to create brave spaces for staff and students to talk about hard things. We have a responsibility to our students to tell the truth (good, bad, and ugly) about our history.
We have a responsibility as citizens to use every means available to encourage law makers to ensure we follow democratic processes AND ensure everyone around us (especially those in the working class) has access to the health care and education and livable wages necessary to thrive.
This year, the theme of National Truth and Reconciliation Week is “Honouring the Survivors” where we memorialize the children lost to the residential school system and honour Survivors and their families.
