No more new year resolutions. Start with Christmas resolutions. 🎉🎄 One thing I have learnt during my life is that most new year resolutions get dropped off within the first week.😞 I know its not just me, but some of you might have also felt the same. One way of tackling the issue is to stop taking newyear resolutions and begin with Christmas resolutions. Why? Because it gives you ample time to get sorted on what you really want to achieve for the next year. Also, from Christmas you get exact one week for the new year. So if you are trying to build a new habit, try to do it everyday from christmas to the new year. Scientifically its proven that doing something consistently for 7 days will automatically wire your brain to continue do that for the rest of the period, so less chance of quitting. Of course, it won't be same for everyone. Most of you may be able to fulfil your resolutions from new year, but my suggestions is for the few who are trying to find a better way in achieving it.💪 So what are your Christmas/new year resolutions???👇

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝑩𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 We currently live in an era of "quiet quitting" - for those who are not familiar with this term, it means doing the minimum requirements of one’s job and putting in no more time, effort, or enthusiasm than absolutely necessary. Quiet quitting has metastasized from just being an ordinary workplace issue and has spread to families, social and religious organisations and even communities. Although there are many reasons why people quit jobs, organisations or people, perhaps the most cited reason is because they don't feel appreciated or valued. So how can you ensure you feel appreciated or valued where you are - the answer might seem counterintuitive but here it goes, by making sure you add value to others. This reminds me of John F Kennedy's historic words in his inaugural address "Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country." In the same vein, ask not what your company or organisation can do for you but look for ways you can add value to the people or the organisation and you find you naturally become more valued and appreciated. "You are most valuable where you add the most value to others" To a productive week!

The Art of Listening Without Adding Meaning School summer holidays are starting across the USA, a time when family interactions increase, whether it's entertaining kids out of school or balancing work and family obligations. While this season can bring joy, it often also brings conflict. Have you ever wondered why? I invite you to consider that the root of much of this conflict lies in the way we listen. Often, in conversations, we make things about ourselves. When our children express dislike for something, we might feel it's a reflection on our choices. When our boss mentions another company's success, we might take it as criticism of our performance. These interpretations lead to reactions and, consequently, conflict. This summer, let's challenge ourselves to listen to conversations exactly as they are said. Resist the urge to interpret or change the meaning to make it about us—unless our name is explicitly mentioned. Remember, when our children do something we dislike (or like), it’s not a comment about us. The interpretation that makes it about us comes from within, and only we can change that. Let's practice seeing actions as they are, devoid of unnecessary meaning. I'm not sure if it is okay to say this on here, I think about quitting at least once a month. This has become a helpful and necessary exercise in perspective.. I enjoy every part of this work including the interesting moments when I have to take myself on long silent walks to listen and square out with the side of me that thinks quitting is a good idea. I give a list of valid reasons of why we should quit; • you have 1 month operational budget left • you cant sustain the work, might as well quit while you're ahead • this problem is too big to solve • surely life shouldn't be this hard • you are the problem and cause of all this • you'll die and I think about it, very very,.deeply. And many times I agree. This is the truth and I cant dismiss or ignore it. But then I proceed to list some reasons why we should go on. • True. But the government sustains 60% of the program so one month is enough to rally the troops 💪🏾 • With 5 years, we're still early. We'll figure out those big things • Yes it is. We cant solve everything • It's right amount of hard. I'd be worried if it was easy • Yes. What now? • Lol., eventually. The biggest gain from this exercise is having the capacity for hard truths, acceptance and doing something about it. You cannot lie to yourself. The more we make space for 1:1 with self, the more we are able to bear the responsibility of our life choices. Repost ♻️ for those who go through similar tussle P.S. Is there a right time to quit?

I have to say it took me a while to get used to summer breaks in EU. “Time tables of projects with summer break on them?!” Really! Sounds simple, yet on my culture this is rare and is rather Christmas the real time off. I’ve learned to appreciate the down time and PLANNING is key. So in light of this break I wanted to remind us all the difference between Urgent and Not! Worth to do a sanity check before and after return. And turn off your phones. It is part of our professional work to help students place boundaries, prioritize wellbeing, and pursue self-care. It’s time to practice what we preach. 😉 I know it feels like there’s still work — we all have long summer lists, right? (And undoubtedly we won’t feel ready when August hits…) But we still need to get away. Our families need us to get away. Our friendships need us to get away. Our health and well-being need us to get away. Our longevity and effectiveness need us to get away. Our students need to see us get away. So let’s do it.
