President and CEO, Society of Physician Entrepreneurs, another lousy golfer, terrible cook, friction fixer
Part of the lean startup methodology is about creating a minimally viable product and validating elements of the business model through the process of customer discovery and development. In medtech and digital devices, however, there is a gap when it comes to reducing ideas to practice i.e. inventing and prototyping or simulating something. Nothing beats a prop when you are trying to explain your gadget to potential customers or investors. 3-D printing has made it easier, but there are still gaps when it comes to creating affordable, low volume, customized prototypes.

After my visit to Formnext - Where ideas take shape last week, I discovered that Joris Peels's insightful article on 3DPrint.com holds even more truth now : https://lnkd.in/eqkZwncM 🔴 The 3D printing industry is currently grappling with a downturn characterized by job losses, budget constraints, and a general economic slowdown. Even established players are experiencing stagnant revenue growth. 🔴 Despite substantial investments, the 3D printing industry has yet to realize the revolutionary changes promised. The complexity inherent in the technology has proven to be expensive, prompting the sector to shift its focus from investor capital to generating actual product and service revenues. 🔴 The challenges in 2023 are undeniable, and I anticipate that 2024 will be equally demanding. However, I am optimistic that the 3D printing business will gradually return to growth. This resurgence may be slower, but it will likely be more solid and concrete in the future. What are your thoughts on this matter ⁉ 🤔
