Video games - the unexplored territory of modern literature. Just as a riveting novel takes you on an imaginative journey, an immersive video game propels you into a world beyond reality. But here's the twist - video games aren't just about entertainment, they're the new form of literature. Think about it. Video games have narratives, character development, and thematic elements, similar to the traditional literature we've grown to love. They are interactive novels, where you don't just read about the protagonist's journey, you live it. Take 'The Last of Us' for instance. It has all the elements of a gripping post-apocalyptic novel, but it's a video game. It tells a heart-wrenching tale of survival, responsibility, and the human spirit, all while allowing players to experience the narrative firsthand. Let's also consider 'BioShock Infinite'. The game's intricate plot, philosophical undertones, and exploration of societal norms are reminiscent of a dystopian novel. Yet, it is experienced through gameplay. So, are video games the new form of literature? I'd say they are an evolution of it - an interactive, immersive, and engaging evolution. Next time you pick up a controller, remember, you're not just playing a game, you're stepping into a living, breathing narrative. I invite you all to share your thoughts. What video game narrative has left a lasting impression on you? #gaming #creativity #storytelling

Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3 are two of the most captivating RPGs in recent years, celebrated for their immersive worlds and engaging narratives. However, despite their distinct storytelling strengths, both games grapple with a peculiar narrative challenge: the paradox of a high-stakes, time-sensitive storyline within an open-world framework that encourages exploration and side quests. #BaldursGate3 #characterprogression #cyberpunk2077 #gamingimmersion #narrativedesign #openworldgameplay #RPGgames #storytellingproblems

🎮 Embark: A Technology-First Studio The Finals is a AAA competitive shooter that made a big splash at launch in December, touted by many as the next big FPS. (For those not up to speed, here’s some gameplay.) The developer behind the game, Embark Studios, is perhaps less well known. It was founded in 2018 by the former Executive Vice President of EA’s Worldwide Studios (and also former CEO of Dice) Patrick Söderlund and a team of tenured Electronic Arts (EA)/DICE (EA Digital Illusions CE AB) executives. Embark says its goal is to “create new types of interactive entertainment and simulated virtual online worlds enabled by massive leaps in technology.” The Finals is the first installment of three major projects Embark has been working on since 2018. We’ll be hearing a lot from Embark in the years ahead, so in this article, we’ll dive into some of the innovative ways technology is being used at the studio, discuss the performance of The Finals, and briefly cover the two other projects in Embark’s pipeline. #13 Creating a new XR game concept - a manual Would you like to develop a new #XR #game that is original and new? Here is the #playbook : 1. decide on a #technology: #MixedReality, #VirtualReality or #WebXR (Online) 2. decide on a genre: #shooter, #adventure, #puzzle, etc. You get the most original concepts when you mix two or more genres together. 3. is the game concept geared towards XR? Moving on to point 4, is the concept a simple copy of a #2d game? Then go back to point 2. 4. is the concept a copy of a previous (successful) #gameconcept? Then it should be better than other previous versions. Is it a game concept that did not exist before? Then skip the remaining points and get on with development! 5. decide on a perspective: XR games are mostly focused on a #POV, but this is by no means a must (note the #motionsickness factor!) 6. is the game story-driven or is the focus on #gameplay? 7. #singleplayer or #multiplayer? 8. perfect the concept using the rules and guidelines that I will introduce in later episodes. 9. Finally, the most important rule of all: The game concept MUST BE FUN! If it's not fun, then go back to point 2. If that's enough for you, then I'm very excited to see the results! But that should be enough for now on the subject of XR games. Let's move on to a new topic.

Regarding game development, unique features can set your game apart and enhance player engagement. Here’s a concise overview of a distinctive feature in game development: Distinctive Features (DFs): Inspired by phonology, the Distinctive Features (DFs) system formally represents key characteristics in games. These features capture what makes a game stand out, whether it’s innovative gameplay mechanics, captivating visuals, or immersive sound design 1. Incorporating DFs into your game can help create a memorable and enjoyable player experience. 🎮✨ Remember, understanding the entire game development process—from concept to completion—is crucial. Unity projects, for instance, offer a seamless workflow that can give your game an edge 2. Keep exploring and innovating! 🚀👾 #uniquefeatures #gamedevelopment #distinctivefeatures
