Official trailer for Kingdom: The Blood The creators of Kingdom: The Blood, an action role-playing game based on the South Korean horror series Kingdom on Netflix, presented the official trailer for the game. Kingdom: The Blood is being developed by South Korean studio Action Square and published by Netflix. Players will be able to create their own characters and fight zombies while traveling through historical sites of medieval Korea. The project is being created not only based on the popular series, but also on the aesthetics of Korean culture. So, for example, a professional performer of Korean traditional sword dance was invited to capture combat movements. Kingdom: The Blood will feature a story mode following the events of the series, and a Conquest mode with boss battles and player-versus-player battles. Kingdom: The Blood does not have a release date yet, but it is already known that the game will receive a worldwide release on PC, iOS and Android in March. Successful content is rarely a “safe bet” from the outset. The best TV shows and movies are risky. For example: The gaming community is one of the hardest audiences to please with TV or movie adaptations, as creators choose which elements from the games will shine and which are better left out. Just because the creators stay true to the game doesn’t guarantee that the adaptation will perform well (“Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” proved that). Twisted Metal is the latest game-to-TV Sony production that premiered on Peacock last month. For those who don’t know, Twisted Metal is also a beloved video game franchise from the 90s, centering around a wild, nightmarish race. It’s not exactly the same as the game, but the risks creatives took (such as removing the supernatural element for now) seems to have paid off. It’s already the only one of four Peacock series to ever rank in the top 10 originals for reach across the week. As reviews roll in, they often contain words like “scrappy,” “campy,” and “funny.” Comic Book Resources said: “a radically different take on the games may just be what the long-dormant series needs to reinvigorate itself and interest in it as a whole.” I’m here for more “radically different” hitting our screens. #media #gaming #entertainment #streaming

Studios will need a better strategy than “just ignore it” if they plan to keep utilizing these characters. And while trademarks offer some protection, they will need a better approach than “sue everyone” if they want to maintain goodwill. Enlightened studios will look at this as an opportunity to open source creativity for these characters and embrace new creators and new voices. They will need to have a mechaism for cultivating the right talent and the right projects so as not to allow a vacuum for the wrong ones. HT here to Jeff Gomez and the “collective journey”.
These are the characters set to enter public domain in the next decade… Film Makers & Game Developers didn’t miss a beat and mixed Pooh Bear and Mickey Mouse Steamboat with a hefty spoon of HORROR the min these IP became public. When it comes to Consumer Products, its key to blend nostalgia with whatever the pop culture is to ignite trend-driven sales. 😈 So what game, product, movie or weird a$$ collab would YOU create with these characters? 🐭 see an image from the new Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse game as spotted on HYPEBEAST in the first comment 😭 #licensing #ip #publicdomain #copywritingtips #royalties #consumerproducts #fandom #gaming #entertainment #horror #popculture #brands #characterart

Storytime: let me take you back to my days as a product manager working with Disney's iconic IPs. About a decade ago (yeah, I'm starting to feel a bit ancient 😅), Disney's "The Nightmare Before Christmas," now a pop culture sensation, was somewhat overlooked by the company. They positioned products in the US, UK, and Japan, but that was about it. Disney didn't seem interested in expanding its reach to other regions, despite a clear demand for the IP. Now, they could have known about this demand if they had bothered with some thorough market research, but instead, decisions were made based on someone's "gut feeling." Apparently, that gut feeling said the brand wouldn't resonate in Europe beyond the UK, and no one bothered to check the data. As a result, unlicensed products, mostly from China, flooded the European market. These products were not only cheap in price but also in quality. Imagine trying to replace these with higher-quality licensed items – it was a challenge, to say the least. But here's the kicker: this challenge could have been easily avoided. One of the major issues, not just at Disney but in many places (one day I'll center my stories on my experience working with Warner), is the tendency to make decisions based on gut feelings rather than actual data. Those making these decisions often aren't tuned in to cultural trends and are unaware of the potential opportunities. As far as Disney goes, if things haven't changed since my time with their IPs, except for a handful of high-grossing IPs, the rest aren't strategically utilized to unlock their full potential. So, do they have a plan for this? I'm skeptical when it comes to Warner IPs, more than doubtful when it comes to Disney IPs. It seems that unless an IP is a blockbuster, it might not get the attention and strategy it deserves, and none of these is a blockbuster. Not even Batman. (Saw this shared by Chris Heatherly – thanks for bringing this topic to my feed!)

New Post: Fallout’s TV Show is Made By Fans, but Not for Only Fans - https://lnkd.in/gfGsywrR - Adapting any well-known property is always going to be a big feat, especially when it comes to video games. It’s one thing to adapt a comic or TV show, it’s another thing to adapt a series of games, which come with a greater degree of self-expression. You can please some fans, but you can’t please all of the fans, as…Read more... - #news #business #world -------------------------------------------------- Download: Stupid Simple CMS - https://lnkd.in/g4y9XFgR -------------------------------------------------- or download at SourceForge - https://lnkd.in/gNqB7dnp

Head of Franchise Development and Transmedia | World-Building Architect | Author | International Speaker
I can’t emphasize enough the value of having game designers and game-minded folks involved in the worldbuilding of an IP. When you do, your world is better optimized and your #transmedia opportunities are increased. While some people are certainly “Swiss-army knives,” I’ve found that true game-minded creators typically think differently than say filmmakers, novelists and playwrights, and thus see different opportunities. Granular nuance and attention to detail are part-and-parcel with games and become super powers these creatives can flex during collaboration. Personally, I’ve benefited greatly from the perspectives of heavyweights like Flint Dille, Matthew Burke, CSM, Zachary Adams and Bill Bridges. And, by the way, the inverse is true for game designers — filmmakers, novelists and playwrights can certainly add unique super powers to their games. So many people ask me where to start in their #transmedia development. One of my answers is always to leverage platforms like LinkedIn to find collaborators who are strong in areas where they aren’t — not just in execution, but in early stage development and #worldbuilding.

Pitching your new game to reviewers and streamers? Here are some quick tips: 1. Put the trailer, genre, and any unique gameplay features front and center when you pitch the press. Don't make journalists go on a wild goose chase for essential info and assets. 2. Don't embellish -- describe accurately. 3. Give them enough lead time to get a good feel for the game. Arcade or more straightforward games can use a week. A 40-hour epic needs at least 10 days. 4. Don't focus solely on the big guys (IGN, RPS, popular streamers, etc). You'll want to support *anyone* who takes game coverage seriously -- even smaller outlets -- with review keys and assets. 5. Finally ... Be gracious if you get a bad review. There will be other games. The relationships you build today are forever #gamedev #games #reviews #streamers #indie #PR #marketing

I help game developers improve the diversity & authenticity of their voice casting through multi location voice production.
How we helped Raw Fury achieve their most successful title launch. Raw Fury were developing a new first-person shooter game. The game, Friends v Friends, has a wonderful and distinctive art style. When they started to see the characters come alive, they decided they wanted to know more about who these characters were. They needed to give them voices. The problem? This was never part of the plan for this title. Head of Production, Liam O’Neill, decided to write a few sample lines of dialogue. This was for 2 characters only. They brought this problem to us and asked if we could help. We could and we did. We brought in a couple of actors and recorded the lines. When the team at Raw Fury heard these dialogues in context. They all knew that this was something they had to pursue for this title. Here’s how we helped: 👇 > We met with Raw Fury’s team to better understand the characters and project > We ran an extensive, global casting to find unique, diverse and fresh talent > We brought on a voice director to get the most out of the performers > Recorded sessions in multiple locations > Involved the Raw Fury team at every step & during recordings > Delivered game ready edits > Made sure all the cast and crew had a ton of fun > Brought the Friends v Friends characters to life Friends v Friends launched on May 30th, 2023. It was Raw Fury’s most successful game launch ever. 🙌 🎉 Was this because of Liam’s decision to give the characters voices / dialogue? Of course not. Did this play a significant part in making it the incredible game it is? Yes. We play a significant role in supporting our clients to tell better stories. Create better experiences. But ultimately a great game is the combination of every element, department, contributor and talent involved. As well as the occasional risk. P.S: If your dev team needs some additional headspace via external support. DM me or drop us an email. #gamedev #gamescom23 #voicecasting
