The heart of what we do is measure #recoverycapital for addiction treatment, recovery support, and behavioral healthcare organizations. In a larger context, we are helping our partners operationalize specific and general social determinants of health. Our zip code and housing are two of the biggest influences on our overall health and wellbeing. Housing is recovery capital. Housing is health care. Housing is community cohesion. These are complex issues. How we look at them can either maintain the status quo or move us to a new, better future. #sdoh #housing #recoveryintelligence

It's upstreamist week ... housing as a solution to addiction. Want to contribute as a person in recovery to the "movement"? Don't become a therapist and definitely don't become a peer support specialist. Get another job, stabilize your life, and start hanging out at your city council and zoning board meetings. And as soon as an opening comes up for the zoning board ... do what you can to get appointed (usually these are mayoral or council appointments). Why do you want to be on the zoning board? The root of all our housing ills (and then some) is zoning ... specifically, exclusionary single-family zoning. It is almost impossible in pretty much Anytown, USA to build dense(ish), multi-family units (not talking about apartment complexes), in small town downtowns or surrounding neighborhoods. (p.s. apartment complexes are not the answer) If we were able to build 2-to-4-unit row homes and clusters near and within commercial centers (downtowns, mostly), we can: ▶ increase supply w/o significantly increasing development costs (= lower rents); ▶ expand the property tax base per square footage (= improved services for all); ▶ further promote walkability (= less obesity, less stress); ▶ cause new community collisions for good (= more connection, serendipity, joy); and ▶ give a shot in the arm to local businesses and economics (= building local, generational wealth). Review two examples. Ex 1: An article from Washington post detailing the end of single-family zoning in Alexandria, VA. https://lnkd.in/gf-uxpu8 Ex. 2: A thorough but succinct review of housing in North America by About Here https://lnkd.in/gR57r-C6 #zoning #urbandesign #recoverycapital

🎇 Since 1984, the CRA has managed redevelopment trusts to revitalize blighted areas in the City of Fort Myers. This reinvestment can take the form of public infrastructure, residential and commercial grant programs, public arts, affordable housing development, safety initiatives and historic preservation. If left under-resourced, parts of our city risk remaining overlooked, affecting community spirit, and slowing economic growth. This lack of redevelopment doesn't just impact current residents—it also discourages potential new businesses and families from making our city their home. Imagine a city where every neighborhood is a beacon of growth and community spirit—a place where residents enjoy sustainable, thriving spaces and businesses benefit from a vibrant economic environment. This is the future we're creating. 🎇

In a world where luxurious and pricey apartments seem to be cropping up at every corner, it's crucial to remind ourselves that there is an alternative - member-run, democratic cooperatives like Riverton Community Housing. As new "luxury" student housing options continue to emerge near the University of Minnesota, we want to emphasize that not all apartment buildings are designed with the same intentions. While some prioritize opulence and extravagance, Riverton focuses on creating affordable, collaborative communities where residents have a genuine say in shaping their living experience. What sets us apart is our commitment to local ownership and management. Our residents can easily reach out to us and even have a board of directors, comprised of fellow residents, who bridge the gap between the community and management. Our core vision is simple: providing cost-effective housing solutions in which residents have a collaborative voice in decisions. So, if you're searching for a housing option that values creating stronger, empowered communities without breaking the bank, look no further than Riverton Community Housing. https://www.riverton.org/ #propertymanagement #multifamily #apartments #studenthousing #urbanliving #minneapolis
