Meta has announced the new Llama-3 family of models, starting with 8B and 40B sizes. It beats most open-source models and compares favorably to proprietary models on standard benchmarks. Training for a 400B version is still running. The new models use incremental architectural improvements that add up to make a big difference. For example, they have a new tokenizer that encodes language much more efficiently, and they trained the model on over 15T publicly available tokens (7 times more than Llama-2). They improved the training pipeline, bootstrapping off of Llama-2 for identifying high-quality data. The training was done on two custom-built 24K GPU clusters. Llama-3 will be supported on the hiddenMind Private LLM platform. Models-as-a-Service coming in Azure AI! As announced at Ignite this week, we continue to expand choice and flexibility to offer developers the most comprehensive selection of frontier and open-source generative AI models. With Model-as-a-Service, a new feature in the model catalog developers will be able to easily integrate the latest AI models such as Llama 2 from Meta, upcoming premium models from Mistral, Jais from G42, and Command from Cohere as API endpoints to their applications.
