June is dedicated to emphasizing the health and wellbeing of men. Despite all jokes about “man colds,” men commonly postpone a trip to a medical clinic, citing that ‘it’s not that bad’ and hoping the concern will self-resolve. But after seeing thousands of unnecessarily miserable men in our Community Care Partners brand clinics we’re here to encourage you to come see us sooner! There’s no need to be tough – especially if it’s going to require medical care eventually, anyway. Be easier on yourself. ccpartners.com #menshealthmonth #mancold #communitycarepartners

How do we advocate for ourselves during a medical provider office visit? What do we say? I expect to be treated as a partner, not as a participant in my health/medical care. I prepare for the visit by making a list of items I want to discuss. During the visit, I take notes. I question anything I don’t understand and, like peeling an onion, will continue to ask clarifying questions until I understand. Then, to ensure my provider and I are on the same page, I will summarize the next steps and expectations (mine and hers/his). During checkout, I will continue to ask questions as needed. How about you? #patientadvocacy #patientexperience #patientempowerment
