Happy Friday Community. TGIF.
Let's delve into the topic of Women in Cannabis, focusing on the critical issue of Retention.
While there's no shortage of Women eager to enter and thrive in the industry, what's lacking is an enabling environment. Unfortunately, the current Cannabis landscape isn't conducive to fostering sustained female leadership. Shockingly, data from the MJ Biz diversity report and Yahoo Finance reveals a significant decline in women executives from 36.8% in 2019 to a mere 20% in 2023. What's behind this alarming trend? It's largely attributed to the entrenched "bro club" culture, among other formidable barriers.
Moreover, the lack of diversity is glaring in cannabis cultivation, where a mere 1% of businesses are owned by Women.
This status quo urgently demands a shift. Women in the industry are grappling to endure and flourish. Let's pledge to actively support Women-owned businesses not just this month, but every month.
Happy Women’s History Month!!!

One of my focuses and passions is assisting companies in implementing affordable, accessible, and actionable strategies in areas crucial to impact: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Sustainability, and Social Impact. Despite the constraints on resources and investments in our sector, it is imperative to continually advance in these areas. Failing to do so will lead to costly and resource-intensive course corrections down the line. My aim is to ensure that companies remain proactive in moving the needle forward, even within existing limitations, to foster lasting positive change and resilience in the face of evolving challenges.
Sarah Sinclair's article "10 ways to inspire inclusion in cannabis" is beautifully aligned, let's rejuvenate our collective commitment to being a true force for good in the world.
🤔 Why do Women in Cannabis groups exist❓
Women's Cannabis groups are thriving, and here to stay, until the challenging landscape women face changes.
That's why I'm so excited to be a part of groups like Blunt Brunch, and their event at MJBiz Con this month!
Highlighting the potential for women to thrive in this dynamic field will ensure its survival. 👀
It's a fact that women face gender bias, unequal pay, limited access to funding & workplace harassment. 😞
🚨 Only ~16% of cannabis companies are women-owned... and the # is decreasing. In MA & OH < 10% of businesses are women-owned. (https://lnkd.in/gqYRg2m8).
Navigating complex regulations is a huge hurdle for women-owned businesses (https://lnkd.in/ggdsACqg).
