It is awesome that the world is committed to making progress to help reduce their carbon footprint which will cause carbon emissions to plateau by the end of this year. Why can't countries like the United States do the same like investing in nationwide public transportation? In fact, we have one fo the highest per capita emission rates in the world!

What we do in the next two to five years is of critical importance to set the pace for reaching the key milestones of 2030 & 2050. Supply Clean power generation has to increase 3x by 2030 and 9x by 2050. This is equivalent to an increase in installed capacity from 3 TW to 11 TW by 2030 and 27 TW by 2050. To be in line with the net zero pathway, global investment in clean energy are expected to rise from USD 1.8 trillion in 2023 to USD 4.5 trillion annually. Grids As the economy moves to become more electric, significant and timely expansion and upgrade of transmission and distribution networks is required, including digitalization and deployment of flexibility solutions. Total (annual) grid investment needs to rise from about $300 billion to $680 billion by 2030, and $1 trillion in 2040. Demand Electrification is vital for the transformation of energy consumption. Electrification will dominate in transportation (especially vehicles, public transport), commercial and residential buildings (through heat pumps), and low-to-medium temperature processes in industry. Clean electricity is also a necessary input for green hydrogen and clean fuels, critical for hard-to-abate industry and long distance travel.
