Stop winging your media interviews. I know you're a seasoned executive. I know you've done countless press briefings. But even the most experienced spokesperson can get tripped up by a tough question or a high-pressure situation. The reason for the problem: Journalists are trained to ask probing questions and elicit newsworthy soundbites. If you're not equally prepared, you risk misspeaking or missing opportunities. But you only need a focused media training session to: -Refine your key messages -Anticipate difficult questions -Practice bridging techniques -Get professional feedback Don't let your hard-earned media opportunity go to waste. Invest in preparation and walk into every interview with confidence and control. #PublicRelations #PRAgency #StrategicCommunications #CrisisCommunications #MediaRelations #SocialMediaManagement #ExecutiveTraining #BrandStrategy #ReputationManagement #ThoughtLeadership

Media training coach. Business owner for 21 years. I teach people The Art of the Great Media Interview -- in-person, virtually and through my new on-demand courses.
The vast majority of journalists are not out to get you. However, a small percentage of journalists are definitely out to get you. Can you, as the spokesperson, tell the difference when you're in the middle of your media interview? Not necessarily. Tip #1: Rely on your communications/media relations people. They have a hard-earned Spider Sense about these interactions and can help you prepare and navigate any media interview. They can smell potential traps, malicious reporters or unethical situations and advise you accordingly. Never speak to the media without them. Tip #2: Put yourself through a great media training session. Learn the tricks of the trade. Understand the difference between a media interview and a conversation. Practice your messaging. Do repetitions of tough interviews, get feedback and make adjustments. Ignore these tips and you're essentially rolling the dice with your media interviews.

PR & Corporate Communications Expert ll Corporate Communications Manager ll Marketing Communications Head
On Media Interviews... My first charge to leadership/executives before and beyond interview settings is this: "If you do not want it reported, do not have it said." At all. Safer for all us. Most especially for the mentally exhausted PR expert who must invest an inordinate amount of time extinguishing fires that could have been easily prevented by just keeping silent. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, is ever 'off the record'. ***And the chess board... well, may be not a perfect metaphor for this, but certainly, for life! #media #interviews #publicrelations #personalbranding.

Corporate Affairs. Media Relations. Corporate Communications. Communications Strategy for senior leaders.
Top three media interview tips. 1. Know your stuff. Don’t put preparation to one side, know the subject matter and practice anticipating questions. 2. Relax You’re a subject matter expert, you are there for what you know. That’s why you are being interviewed. 3. Forget about the ums I’ve lost count of the times people have told me they um a lot. In most cases they don’t and only do it more by being worried about it. Journalists are more concerned about the content (know your stuff) and overall presentation (relax) than the odd um in conversations. Remember that’s what some of the best media interviews are - a conversation. #mediarelations #ceo #corporateaffairs #communicationsmanager #headofmarketing ********** You can follow Daniel McDougall and get his perspectives from 25 years in the media and communications industry.

Your media spokespeople are busy. So, how can you ensure they are best prepared for that crucial next interview? Effective preparation always begins by checking they have had recent media training. But ahead of any media opportunities, they should also be given a media briefing document that covers what they need to know and ensures they are able to communicate with clarity and confidence https://bit.ly/3At07u1 #mediatraining #mediarelations
