A company that imported and distributed wine in the Korean market for more than 20 years has been decided to sell it. Even during the COVID-19 period, sales were not decreasing significantly, and it seems that there is still no deficit in the company's operation, but it seems that the decision was made after predicting the future market. The company has annual sales of 5 to 6 billion won (about $37 million to $45 million), and its operating profit is expected to be around 10% per year. They are said to have inventory of about $22 million based on cost, including about $75,000 in premium wine. The sale price is expected to be around $37 million, including inventory and operating rights. There are eight employees in total. A company that has been growing steadily for a long time has been put up for sale. Many #netizens on social media shared the videos of #Mixuebingcheng’s staff selling beverages on the streets. 🥤 The brand’s #drinks trolleys showed up in China’s many cities like Liaoning, Wuhan, Jiangsu and Henan. Consumers can purchase its hot-selling products such as chilled #lemonade priced at 4 yuan/cup and lemon black tea at 5 yuan/cup. Meanwhile, #Haidilao, a Chinese hot pot 🥘 brand, also sells its products in the night fair. Consumers could buy deep-fried dough sticks and fried crisp meat at price of 8 yuan and 16 yuan, respectively. Then why these two leading brands in #China’s respective sector sell products on the street? Because it is a nice way to get closer to consumers. They like to get attached to brands by this down-to-earth method. According to one of the participants, the current sales of their drink trolley is about 3000 yuan per day, with 500 yuan per hour. Currently, brands generally choose convenient-to-cook and low-price products and flexibly change the spots to sell. There are more products and ways to be expected in the future. 🤗

Spending 3 full-on days Bakery China Shanghai was very interesting to analyse what's going on in this section of the China F&B market, from the B2B perspective. I hope you'll like my punchline at the end. My key takeaway is there's growth both on the quality side and on the fast+cheap+unhealthy side ! We're seeing more small to medium brands with chefs who trained at Cordon Bleu for example, who focus on quality small production, imported products etc... There's also lots of medium to large chains with industrial approach and lower requirements for ingredient quality and health, with more emphasis on product fashionability and volume. I'm seeing AOP mentioned more and more, but with the public not understanding what it means, many professionals not clear on it either ( I polled, work to be done on explaining what is AOP, MOF, etc...) My talk in the forum focused on : 1- highlighting some key areas of interest in the French bakery market and trying to convey the idea that a mature market should have a healthy balance of industrial and artisanal production (inducing the culture standpoint) 2- China is not the West : there are lots of creative developments here that we're not seeing in the west, both because different palates and culture (still some reluctance to crunchy bread for now, more Japanese style rolls) and also a heightened pressure to innovate in the face of the competition (steak croissants are one of many examples) My goal is now to turn this experience into actionable and valuable points both for my clients and for the general public. Whilst I try to maintain an open-mind about what can be available on the market, I definitely focus on quality healthy food and lifestyle ! After the show I half-jokingly summed up I was both happy for the quality side, but also ready to invest in pharmaceutical shares...
