I was laid off recently. Here are the most helpful things I've seen people in my community doing aside from sending job postings: ⭐ Endorse LinkedIn skills. These are searchable keywords that help recruiters find a profile. It's not the weightiest part of a job search, but it sure doesn't hurt to have the social proof. ⭐ Write a LinkedIn recommendation. Some folks took the positive feedback they'd already sent me through our internal company channels and posted it publicly, and others have whipped up entirely new posts for me. They're helpful to have on the job hunt, and it means a lot to read people's kind words. ⭐ Offer a meal. Friends nearby have had me over to their place for dinner or taken me out for coffee. In the past I've also venmoed friends for a beer if I couldn't be there to support them IRL. ⭐ Reach out, for realsies. Most folks rely on their jobs for much of their social interaction, so being unemployed can be super socially isolating. Receiving a text is nice, but it means a lot when someone reaches out to actually chat on the phone or go on a walk together. (This goes for your introverted friends too!) ⭐ Set up coworking. One friend in town invited me to work together every Monday, and I've also been on quiet coworking Zoom calls with remote pals. This has helped me feel much less cut off as well as been my motivation for getting out of bed instead of fossilizing with decision fatigue and sadness. If you've been laid off yourself, what's been helping you feel taken care of recently? Drop it in a comment so our community can support us! #layoffs #community #remotework #jobsearch
This is an awesome list, thank you for putting this together ❤️ I’m gonna get started on a few of these!
Miss you in the office <3
Great list!

1yHello Charlie, great tips! I'm also unemployed so I recently made CoverHelper (www.coverhelper.live) because I was tired of writing cover letters to all the jobs I've been applying to. Feel free to check it out and best of luck out there!
