🌟 Catalysts of Change: The IMPACT FIRST Summit 🌍🚀 Picture this: A historic WWII bunker, a gathering of the brightest minds in business, science, and art, and me, ironically wishing for business cards. This unique combination set the stage for the IMPACT First Summit Marvelous - the science catalyst firm, Better Earth, and PHINEO gAG. 1️⃣ Beyond Business as Usual: The summit's vibe? Electrifyingly authentic. Our mantra? "No corporate nonsense, just passionate people making a real impact." And guess what? We did exactly that. The absence of phone signal (a feature, not a bug!) meant no distractions from our digital devices. Who knew you could have such meaningful conversations without checking your phone every five minutes? Thanks, 🌏 Raphael Fellmer, for reminding me. 2️⃣ Diverse Minds, One Mission: In a bunker that's seen more history than my entire Netflix watchlist, we witnessed a melting pot of entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, and artists. Captivating talks and performances by Anahita Thoms, Heike Freund, Prof. Dr. Anabel Ternès, and Lea B. opened new perspectives and broadened our horizons. 3️⃣ Creating Collaborative Pathways: The Summit wasn't just about high-level talks; it paved the way for genuine, action-oriented collaborations. Ideas weren't just shared; they were transformed into plans for future partnerships and ventures, making every conversation a potential seed for change. 4️⃣ Marvelous Team, Marvelous Execution: A heartfelt shoutout to the Marvelous team Chris Heyer, Lia Carlucci 🌱, Christian Lindener 🥷 & Philipp Buddemeier for their extraordinary vision and execution. I believe our innovative approach to blending science, investment, and entrepreneurial spirit isn't just a concept; it's a blueprint for our future. When discussing the value systems that influence our society, one can't help but observe how 'innovation' has increasingly been elevated to a level of moral and societal virtue. At first glance, innovation seems primarily driven by economic gains or competitive advantage, which goes against most ancient(or modern) definitions of virtue. However, when we peel back the layers, we find that the pursuit of innovation also has a philosophical basis, deeply rooted in Enlightenment ideals of progress, humanism, and the betterment of society at large. The ethical framework that often surrounds innovation stems from a sense of optimism and an intrinsic belief that human ingenuity can solve problems, uplift lives, and build a better future. John Locke, one of the fathers of modern liberalism, would argue that innovation is an extension of property rights—one of the most foundational tenets of his philosophy. In his "Second Treatise of Government," Locke posits that individuals have the right to the fruits of their labor. This idea is often interpreted to mean physical labor, but in today's knowledge economy, intellectual labor is arguably even more valuable. Innovators invest their time, intellect, and resources to create something new, and the right to own, share, or capitalize on this intellectual property can be seen as a moral imperative that underpins our economic system. In doing so, innovation becomes a virtuous activity, rooted in the idea that humans have a right—and perhaps a duty—to improve upon their conditions. “The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche Immanuel Kant, another luminary in Western philosophy, adds further ethical depth to the concept of innovation. His "Categorical Imperative" suggests that one should act only according to that maxim whereby one can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law. In the context of innovation, if everyone were to strive for progress and improvement, the cumulative effect would likely be positive on both a societal and global scale. Moreover, innovation often involves a process of collaboration and shared knowledge, echoing Kant’s idea that rational beings have intrinsic worth and that we are obligated to treat them as ends in themselves, not merely as means to our own ends.
