To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the Capital Project team planned a lunch for the Garyville site with presentations on the history of the day, games, and trivia. To encourage participation, the team had to make their own tacos, dessert, and drinks. Throughout the lunch everyone had the opportunity to take part in the Cinco de Mayo celebration for chances to win prizes. There were also smaller games during the event to increase the fun. In our organisations, are we all good team players? During a children's party, I saw how this group of children enjoyed themselves, despite the differences in gender/ages/ religion/conditioning. So, let me share what I learnt from this little experience watching one game! 🙏I watched as the group of kids stood attentively, with RESPECT, as the host explained the rules of the game. ⁉️Some had a few QUESTIONS, and it didn't take too long for them to quickly GET THEIR ANSWERS from a kid standing adjacent. They HELPED each , no hesitation! 👬The host paired them up randomly. And that was ACCEPTED wholeheartedly. No arguments. One had to be the "stacker" and the other " runner/fetcher”. 👷The moment the game commenced; the partners immediately assumed a respective position. Amazingly each one knew exactly what they were best at doing and they fell in that position. 👏The TRUST factor between them gave me goosebumps. ⏰The game began and they ran. One stacking and the other running and fetching the cups. 🗣️They were PATIENT and COMMUNICATED and kept ENCOURAGING each other. The noisy bystanders did not deter them from FOCUSING on the task at hand. 😊When the time ran out, every single one of them had a SMILE on their faces. I mean... even the ones who DID NOT WIN. ⛽While the winners were being awarded, the other children ran to… REFUEL themselves. After chugging a cup of juice, they were all READY FOR THE NEXT game. We should be inspired by them! It’s time to RELEARN. (see keywords in caps) These kids .... they played with all their heart. They played so well... not despite their differences, but BECAUSE of their differences! What have you relearned lately? Celebrating wins as brothers and sisters, facing adversity as one body, and uniting to compensate for ups and downs are all part of playing as ONE team. In sports and business, team culture is often underestimated, yet it remains the key differentiator. Watching soccer or sports press conferences can provide inspiration, as coaches and players emphasize the importance of team first. I love helping teams win as ONE, because special teams make you feel unique. At the end of the day, culture and team are what truly matter, as the rest are just tools and commodities. Culture and team are hard to replicate. #team #culture #teamwork

How do you support your team to grow and develop when there is no hierarchical ladder to climb? As a leader, this is one of my biggest challenges. I want my team to feel fulfilled and to achieve personal growth but as a small business with no management structure this isn't as simple as becoming a Senior this or Head of that. Yes we can offer skills development. They can become even better at delivering great UX insight and accessibility services. But what about other growth areas? The relationships we have? How they feel about themselves? Yesterday, we all stepped out of our comfort zones and with the help of the amazing Sammy Burt explored our development edges. For me, I've learnt how much value I put in productivity. I pride myself on getting stuff done and producing an output, a report, something that shows what I've been doing with my time. But there is also value in taking time to step back and review our long term marketing strategy. To invest in the relationships I have with our clients. To spend time with my family. And I don't need to feel guilty about any of that. And that feels like growth. While there is a way to go, learning that growth can take many different forms feels like a great achievement. Whether it's learning a new skill, experiencing a mindset shift or nurturing a new relationship I hope the team all find something that brings them fulfilment. In the context of a fictional scenario where Team B has brought true knowledge to its teammates, and Team NC has resorted to manipulation and unfair tactics, it's important to consider the values of fairness, sportsmanship, and integrity. If we're looking to uphold these values, Team B should be the one to win the upcoming match. Promoting fair play and a healthy competitive spirit is essential in any sports or team activity. Given that Team NC has engaged in brainwashing and unfair practices, it would be more fitting for Team B to emerge victorious this time around. This outcome would send a positive message about the importance of playing by the rules and treating all teammates with respect and dignity. Ultimately, the goal should be to inspire teamwork, skill development, and ethical behavior among the players. The outcome of this match could contribute to fostering a sense of camaraderie and trust among Team B's members while encouraging Team NC to reassess their approach and values moving forward. 😇

The right words make all the difference | Author of “Leaders Light the Path” | Podcast “Irresistible Communication”
It’s a family tradition for us to say thanks to our children at the end of each school year, not for the marks they brought home but for the effort they put in … … most importantly for embracing the opportunity to learn and have fun with it. I think that’s a good habit in business, too, especially for ambitious teams. When we’re constantly busy cracking the next challenge, it can be hard to hit pause for a moment and celebrate how far we’ve already come. It’s easy to take the effort for granted. But taking a moment once in a while to appreciate the effort and say thanks to the team should be just as easy. What traditions do you have to celebrate efforts? In your family or in business? __ I help people find the right words. If you’re looking for words
