Ruli’s LegalDesk tool automatically intakes and answers common legal questions based on a company’s own policies. One of the things I have enjoyed most about "funemployment" has been having the brain space and time to connect with great people and contribute in new ways. Thanks to an introduction from Heather Doshay at SignalFire, I had the chance to meet Bryan Lee and Xi Sun and to sign on to advise their incredible legal tech startup, Ruli, the AI Teammate for inhouse counsel. Even more exciting, today, Ruli is coming out of stealth with $2.2M pre-seed! 🚀, led by SignalFire. From my vantage point as a general counsel, I could immediately see the value in the tools the first time Bryan fired up a demo for me. Large and small inhouse legal teams are often trying to do more with less, but have requests and questions coming from all corner of the business. These requests are important and timely for the folks asking, but sometimes legal teams can slow things down due to resourcing contraints. Ruli helps solve the problem at intake and triage by automating answers and increasing productivity. Easier and lower risks issues can quickly get resolved while complicated and high risk ones are routed for more high touch handling. This also means legal team members get to focus more of their time and attention on the meaty work they love. The legal #artificialintelligence market is getting more crowded as new #startups continue to woo #investors. The latest entrant, Eve, launched on Oc.t 25 with $14 million in seed funding led by #venturecapital firms Lightspeed Venture Partners and Menlo Ventures. Eve says it offers a 'personalized' AI legal assistant to help automate and save time on tasks like document review and #legal research. Jay Madheswaran, the San Francisco-based company's CEO and co-founder, said Eve's enterprise software comes with a set of 'skills' for certain tasks, which law firm customers can then customize. Madheswaran has previously held roles as a partner at Lightspeed and head of product engineering at cybersecurity software company Rubrik. This founding team found a way 🧠. The Co-Founders of Legal Karma (one of our newest portcos ❤️), Kory Kelly and Mauricio Cano, saw the barriers of law firms being able to adopt new technologies, so they decided to distribute their product through banks, credit unions, and financial advisors instead. This ingenious strategy led them to a $2 million seed round led by one of our VC BFFs, Everywhere Ventures (The Fund), despite funding in legal tech dropping to its lowest level since 2017.
