** Three Ways We Relate To The World *** To myself, to my inner circle, to the world in general Hello #Linkedln ! Being someone who loves to #organize, I recently came across a method of evaluating how we relate to the world. * Self * Inner Circle * Strangers in our daily lives This breakdown helped me understand the feelings I have around getting fired 2 months ago. (I reported corruption, and was let go.) Having a job to go to gave me a lot of "inner circle" and "new people" connections. I worked in a hotel, so while my co-workers were a mix of friends and "people I tolerate", they were the same each day, each week. Add into that all the guests I checked in. Many started off as "strangers" but became "friendly"! They remembered me and would come back to the Front Desk and ask questions about Las Vegas -- how to get to places, where's the best pizza etc. So losing a job was a lot more than losing a paycheck. I lost a chunk of my social circle. And because I'm not in a romantic relationship and I don't talk to my family -- a job really helps me fill that "second area" of "people in my daily life, consistently". Now there is some good news. With more free time, I am becoming friendly with some of the employees at the grocery stores and the Starbucks that I frequent. We recognize each other, say "hi" and maybe chat for a moment. I am a comic so people find me quite entertaining! Since I can't cook where I am staying, all of my meals are bought "as I need them". So yes I am in the grocery store 3 times a day. But I mix it up! Today, I unexpectedly ran into an old friend I haven't seen or spoken to in years. We've simply stayed in touch or read updates on social media. As we caught up, it dawned on me just how valuable these chance encounters can be in the realm of networking. Beyond exchanging pleasantries, we delved into memories, shared experiences, and aspirations, (some tears were shed) reigniting a connection that time hadn't eroded. This encounter reaffirmed my belief in the importance of networking, not just for professional advancement, but for personal enrichment as well. It reminded me that networking isn't solely about exchanging business cards or making strategic connections—it's about fostering genuine relationships built on mutual respect and kindness. Who would have thought that OG partners from a Starbucks store opening in little, ole small town Missouri not only stay in touch and cheer each other from afar but also see each other after almost 10 years like no time has gone by? Not me. I didn't but, IT HAPPENED. It was lovely and I am so grateful for you, Tacy. In today's fast-paced world, these face-to-face interactions serve as a reminder of the power of human connection. They remind us of the impact a simple act of kindness can have in brightening someone's day, sparking inspiration, and leaving a lasting impression. So, let's embrace the opportunity to be kind, to listen, and to learn from each other. Jasper has been working at PBM Express for almost two years now. Since this month he is team leader in the warehouse. A true pop culture fan and also passionate about his work. Let’s meet him in 6 questions:   WHAT DOES YOUR WORKING DAY LOOK LIKE? I just work with my colleagues in the warehouse, mostly on the packing floor. That's the last point where orders are checked before they go to our customers. I also maintain e-mail contact with colleagues, transporters and suppliers of packing materials. I like short lines of communication, so when I have questions or any problems, I usually walk straight to a colleague to discuss those issues.   WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB? That I work on products that I myself find very interesting. And I enjoy solving practical problems a lot more than theoretical challenges on paper or in data. In addition, I am given the freedom to do what suits me and pull tasks towards me, which in turn creates career opportunities.   ARE YOU A POP CULTURE FAN YOURSELF? Yes, I am quite a nerd. From Dungeons & Dragons to Star Wars and everything from The Lord of the Rings to Pokémon, I really enjoy it all.   WHAT CHARACTERISTICS SUIT YOU? I think I'm pretty good with people. I prefer to make sure someone understands me or my choices, rather than convincing them that I am right. I am also solution-oriented and able to look at the bigger picture from time to time.   WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME? I like gaming, watching movies and series, reading, motorcycling, I'm learning Spanish and I like to socialise (and have some beers) with friends.   WHAT WOULD YOU DO (DIFFERENTLY) IF YOU WERE THE BOS AT PBM? Haha, always a dangerous question. I think I would put more emphasis on strengthening the colleague feeling throughout the company. Activities are now often organised by department, but I think you get more connection if you also organise social activities and outings for the whole company. After all, you get to know people better in the pub than at a meeting.   ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SAY? It was McDonald's for me. 🍔🍟 Without a silver spoon in hand or mouth, my first paycheck at 15yrs old came from McDonalds. Then a Mexican restaurant, a grocery store, a pizza shop doing delivery, a department store, and then a student worker through most of college. Never been afraid to work. It developed me to be a consumer-focused employee for revenue and a business-focused employee for expenses. #EBITDA before it was so trendy. 😂 If we aren't *obsessive* with consumer sentiment about our product or service we are losing ground. "5 Career Lessons Brewed at the Starbucks Counter" Recently, when I went to Starbucks, little did I know, my career would be brewed, steeped, and frothed with lessons that even a venti cup couldn't hold. 1. Beans Before Buzz Remember the first time you tried that bold new coffee? It was like a leap of faith, right? Well, my career journey started with a similar leap. I realized that before chasing the buzz of success, I needed to understand the essence of my field—the beans of knowledge, if you will. Just like Starbucks knows its beans, I needed to know my industry inside out. 2. The Froth Will Settle Ever seen a frothy cappuccino settle into a rich, creamy goodness? My career had its frothy moments too—exciting yet chaotic. From juggling multiple tasks to tackling unexpected challenges, I learned that just like froth settles, so do things in our professional lives. It's all about finding that sweet spot between chaos and control. 3. Sip of Resilience Ever ordered a complicated coffee and the barista nailed it? That's resilience! In my journey, I faced setbacks that felt like trying to order a "grande, triple-shot, half-caf, no-foam, soy latte" (say that five times fast!). But just like Starbucks keeps improving its recipes, I kept refining my skills, bouncing back stronger with each setback. 4. Global Blend of Networking You know how Starbucks brings global flavors to your cup? Well, I learned that networking is like sipping from a cup of global insights. Just as Starbucks connects cultures, networking connects you to a world of opportunities. From LinkedIn connections to industry events, I embraced the art of networking like a well-crafted flat white—strong and impactful. 5.
