This month we will be providing CARE tips to heighten awareness about Alzheimer's disease and providing support for the more than 16 million Americans who are care partners. Being a care partner is a difficult journey that can often leave you feeling like you are on an island. The Caregiver Action Network, a nonprofit organization, offers some tips in honor of National Family Caregivers Month. Being prepared and communicating with the doctor can help you get the support that you need. Here are a few tips: - know your loved one's medical history - have a current list of medications - make a list of questions/concerns before you go - ask for a recap/follow up after the visit to ensure everyone is on the same page Empowering Care Partners CARE with Compassion, Acceptance, Reliability, and Education. "There are only four kinds of people in the world: Those who have been caregivers. Those who are currently caregivers. Those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.” – Rosalynn Carter As we wrap up Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month, it’s the perfect time to take a moment to remember and honor the wise words of a caregiving pioneer, Rosalynn Carter, who just passed away. She worked throughout her lifetime to improve the lives of the 11 million unpaid family members and friends caring for the 6.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and millions more tending to those with other conditions. I was asked to sit down with news, NewsChannel 5 Network and share what it was like to be a caregiver and talk about the resources, helpline, and support groups that are available through Alzheimer's Association® and Alzheimer's Association Tennessee Chapter . Alzheimer’s journey is a challenging one for families. As the American population ages, the number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to increase dramatically and many more people will require care for this and other conditions. So let’s observe all four kinds of people in the world Mrs. Carter described, knowing that there is no more sanctified of a job than showing up 24/7 to love, nurture and be prone to the needs of our loved ones in need. #caregiving #love #support #supportgroups #research #brain #body #healthyliving #earlydiagnosis #knowthewarningsigns #endalz

Every person I know who starts a business dedicated to caregivers or patients does so because of personal experiences. Their stories inspire us. Their creativity and perseverance make navigating health challenges easier. Their kind and loving hearts make the world a better place for the rest of us. One of these very special people is Steve Hebert. Like so many others, Steve's experiences of supporting sick loved ones is what led him to recognize a critical need in healthcare. It's one thing to recognize a need, it's another to do something about it. Steve has done just that. Recently, I asked Steve to share his story and solution with my Badass Advocate audience. What Steve has created is something we will all need. Because, the harsh reality is that we will all deal with our flawed healthcare system at some point. Those flaws will cause frustration and stress. Steve's solution will help to minimize both. The sooner we start using his system - the better prepared we will be when life goes haywire. 🤪 👓 Happy reading... #healthcareadvocate #patientadvocate #cancer #patientadvocacy #badassadvocate Erin Galyean https://lnkd.in/gv97pAz7
