And I thought the alcohol ones were bad. WTF are we doing here, people?
A vending machine that sells bullets using facial recognition and AI. What could go wrong? #law #artificialintelligence https://lnkd.in/giPB8meR

Hey Everybody, here's a great idea. NOT!!!! No. No. No. No. No. No. No. What on God's green earth is wrong with people? Here's the quote from the article: “Our smart retail automated ammo dispensers have built-in AI technology, card scanning capability and facial recognition software,” the company’s website states. “Each piece of software works together to verify the person using the machine matches the identification scanned.” A gentle common sense reminder... Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Ugh! I can't even. https://lnkd.in/e8HtKbZm Khoa Lam - Let's keep an eye on this one for the AI incident database. Not that it's for sure going to go wrong, but ummm, ok. Yeah, it's definitely going to go wrong.

😱 Facial recognition on M&M machines. Buying a treat can be a very nice moment. Even for the vending machine owners, though, who take your biometric data. 😡 Not good. Not at all. One day the machine showed an error with the message "Invenda.Vending.FacialRecognitionApp.exe" From there, it turned out that the machine was (and is) using facial recognition of the sprightly youngsters who went to buy a sighing candy bar. 😤 How is it possible that they can take our biometric data without asking us for consent? ⚠ Don't let this go unnoticed. Ridiculous fines and absent publica opinion are the best weapon for pervasive AI when we really don't need it. It is not "AI for good." This pervasiveness is not to prevent disease outbreaks or to prevent money laundering. This is pure and simple Data Selling Business without authorization. This news should go viral, and it doesn't matter if it is me or others doing it, as long as it is done. Thanks to Mauro Bennici for bringing this article to my attention. #ai #facialrecognition #ethicalai #responsibleai #privacymatters https://lnkd.in/eSC9P_wM

This is exactly why we need the #EUAIact. Eminent example of how NOT to do AI deployment! https://lnkd.in/dzwzkz-2

If you ever wonder what not to do in AI Ethics, this is it. Vending machines, collecting facial recognition data with estimated age and gender without consent is an AI Ethics fail. https://lnkd.in/g_FJaRCS #aiethics #ai #fail #facialrecognition

These solutions are currently being examined but require greater awareness and cultural and habitual changes. Nowadays, companies are seeking solutions such as AI to decrease operating costs and boost profit margins.

Interesting announcement at the weekend that Booths supermarket is putting staff back behind its tills and removing the automated self-checkout systems. It reminded me of Dr Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic‘s excellent book; “I, Human; AI, Automation, and the Quest to Reclaim What Makes Us Unique” where he states: “This was after all, always the promise and hope of any technological revolution – standardize, automate and outsource tasks to machines so that we can engage in higher-level intellectual or creative activities” except that he goes on to say “there is not much evidence […] that we are becoming any wiser.” If we are not all gravitating to higher-level value-add activities as promised, then initiatives that create employment and surely boost human engagement and mental health must be a good thing. #ai #harvardbusinessreview #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/eaSF2he6

To be honest, it kind of boggles my mind that people don't see the incredible similarity between self-checkout tech and AI's purported automation of labor. Because these two things are *exactly* the same in their intention (i.e., eliminating or greatly reducing human labor), and are almost certain to end up at the same conclusion: it wasn't worth it. #AI #Automation #Work https://lnkd.in/dZDRxvBe
