Let's be clear – "Minority Attracted Persons" is merely a manipulative term used by predators seeking societal acceptance for their predatory inclinations. Promoting 'minority attracted persons' is a dangerous trend that threatens our society's very core. We must stand together against the normalization of pedophiles who disguise their harmful intentions under the guise of a deceptive label. Let us remember the disadvantages of embracing such a dangerous concept: 1. Accepting this puts innocent children at risk, undermining their safety and well-being. 2. Embracing these claims legitimizes the exploitation of minors, eroding our collective values and moral compass. 3. By normalizing such behavior, we hinder the pursuit of justice and protection for victims of abuse, denying them the support they deserve. 4. This seeks to blur the line between consensual relationships and exploitation, creating confusion and minimizing the severity of heinous crimes. 5. Embracing this concept erodes trust in our communities and institutions, leaving children vulnerable and without a safe space to confide. 6. Tolerance for "minority attracted persons" provides cover for predators to perpetrate their crimes unchecked, further victimizing innocent lives. This is huge for ICAC investigators. When faced with backlogs of ICAC cases/ NCMEC cybertips, using Pathfinder will not only help reduce this backlog, but possibly help identify previously unknown live victims. Social media companies are preying on our youth to make a profit, endangering their mental and physical health — and our federal government has failed to take action. Here in Colorado, we know young people are using these platforms to easily purchase illicit drugs, are being lured into situations for sexual exploitation, and are easily able to unlawfully purchase firearms. Currently, parents have no way of protecting children from harmful social media predatory behavior. SB24-158 imposes meaningful requirements on social media companies with users in Colorado to protect our youth from dangerous social media activity. By raising the age of protection from 13 to until a juvenile turns 18, requiring age verification, and establishing parental tools to opt out of dangerous features, this bill would enable parents to prevent tracking features such as geolocation and dark patterns that manipulate kids to forgo safeguards.
