For the longest time, I was on the fence about the organization's decision to allow girls to join Boy Scouts. Until I sat on a Eagle BoR for our "sister Troop's" first girl to go up for Eagle. Interviewing this girl and learning about her Scouting career, and everything she did to progress through the ranks, affirmed that the program is not being compromised to accommodate girls. I mean, this girl had more camping days than some of our boys and and her favorite MB was white water rafting for crying out loud! This young lady's entire troop stayed after their weekly meeting for over an hour to be present for the results of her board. These girls were so excited and supportive of their very first Eagle! In that moment, I was convinced that offering the opportunity for girls to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout is the best decision National has made in a long time. I don't care what you call it, Boy Scouts of America, Scouts BSA, Scouting America...it makes absolutely no difference. WHen this young lady tells people she's an Eagle, it will mean something.

Eagle Scout, dad, and long-time scouting volunteer here. Scouting is flourishing in our Council. We have camped on barrier islands, in a cave hundreds of feet below ground, on an aircraft carrier, in museums, in a pristine Appalachian valley, and nearly 10,000 feet above sea level in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico. Through it all, the scouts have learned to support each other through adversity and work together as a team. Our program is more robust, with far more options for activities than when I was in scouts in the ‘90’s. It is not watered down in any respect. I’m thrilled that the scouting movement is available to more and more young people so they can share in these amazing experiences.

I would rather it be phrased “Scouts of America “. When I hear Scouting America, I first think of a travel agency or a group who recruits athletes. I do not think of boys, girls, or families. I wish the National Board and Office would rethink this change. Scouts of America would meet the needs for inclusion and diversity. Please consider this for better advertising.

My daughter just "crossed over" from cub scouts into an all-female, scout-led troop, and did her first weekend campout (without me tagging along, as is the custom in Cub Scouts) last weekend. She's heading to camp this summer as well. I'm so proud of her! I was a scout when I was a kid and I'm happy that she's getting this opportunity.

As an Eagle Scout who married someone who was in Girl Scouts, this move will make having a closer connection to the outdoors and community much more attainable for so many individuals. My wife had join Girl Scouts after hearing about all the camping, hiking, and adventurous outings her male classmates were attending but only found a spread of etiquette classes, fund raisers, and an overall lackluster experience. Political beliefs should not stand in the way of what the Scout Oath and Law strive to instill in the youth of America.

Scouting America needs to merge in the Girl Scouts of the USA. I am an Eagle Scout!

Female Scoutmaster here. So glad to see the change 🥹. My Eagle son is so proud his sister gets to partake in this program. There are reasons girls want in. GS is not for every women. Two very different programs. Family friendly for young families too is so beneficial. Building leaders for tomorrow in both males and females.

We will have to see how this works with time. Sumner camp is now a totally different vibe and atmosphere- both for the young men and the young ladies present. It brings a very dynamic set of new circumstances that we as leaders must manage. The focus is less about skills , survival and leadership and more about what the others are doing and how to “be cool or liked “ accepted by the opposite sex. Spend a whole week at summer camp as a leader before you comment - i would assume most posting have not spent a whole week or two at camp with the mixed troops. Whole new set of dynamics and challenges and issues. Scouts leaving camp in middle of night to meet up. We all must proceed w caution. 15 + years leader , Eagle Scout Ex camp counselor and Brotherhood OA member
