Now that universities are starting again, I'll re-post this research survey opportunity. I'm hoping to use the data collected to write a series of articles on what firms expect from internships, co-ops, and entry-level hires, what students have learned from their internship/co-op experiences, and what students who have yet had internships/co-ops are concerned about. This can hopefully help to ease the transition into the working world for students and to help firms better acclimate their new employees. Here's the survey brief and a link to participate: TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DESIGNERS This survey is designed to gather information from practicing professionals at design firms, students who have completed internships and/or co-operative experiences, and students who have yet to experience professional employment. Data from this survey will be used in a series of articles and papers outlining what firms expect from prospective interns, co-ops, and entry level hires, alongside student fears and lessons learned about such experiences. Responses will be used in the aggregate and with direct quotes from notable comments. Findings will contribute to design program course content and curricular scaffolding, student efforts and employability, and design firm expectations and personnel management. Responses are anonymized and all identifying or categorizing demographic questions are completely optional. Survey participation is voluntary.
