Why you should enter awards!
Up until last year, I had never entered awards (it's just not my thing and so many awards seemed to be popularity contests...). But last year, I finally decided to enter an award. And guess what? That was by far THE best thing I had done all year.
Wanna know what made me enter? Check out my latest blog post on my website.
ps: if you're thinking of entering an award, stop holding yourself back and JUST DO IT!

We've had around 1,000 people download our jump.global unofficial awards week guide and 2,000 people RSVP to our NO EGO party (wow). The team worked really hard on these so to see them be received by our friends and the industry at large is really cool. We also sent out this note yesterday to remember as we go into the week...
"We are human first. There will be things going on every second of the day so that means lots of fun ... but also lots of chaos. It's OK if you are feeling overwhelmed, especially for a week as important to our industry as this one. Remember that your worth is not dictated by the events you were or weren't invited to and you are more than your job title.
Make new friends, lead with empathy, get some rest, and drink lots of water.
See you soon,
team jump.global
PS – try to introduce yourself at parties by your first and last name rather than leading with the company you work for. Let's go into 2024 with more personal equity. It's fun :)"
📣 Earlier this year, CNN reported that "One of the issues facing mainstream awards is simply how much harder it is for people of colour to receive recognition."
It is a sad fact that as advanced as we are in 2023, this statement stands true.
But here is a happy fact . . .
Also in 2023, we at Australian Professionals of Colour (APOC) have seen a huge number of people stand up and walk the talk in elevating people of colour in Australia! 👏 And no, we don't shy away from recognising and awarding them! 🏅
❓ Have you been seeing these people too?
❔ Are you one of these people?
If yes, then I have some great news for you! We have just opened up nominations for two epic awards, where you can nominate yourself or someone you know, to recognise and reward their effort. Showing people that you see their efforts and nominating them for an award is one of the best things you can do to make people feel valued and seen.
Nominations are open for the following two awards:
🏆 Community Champion of the Year 2023
Someone who has contributed significantly to the progress of the Professionals of Colour (POC) community as a whole (e.g.: established a network of POC, created initiatives to help the POC community, lobbied the cause and created a difference)
🌟 Corporate Legend of the Year 2023
Someone who has contributed significantly to one or many POC's career progress in the workplace (e.g.: helped you or someone you know break a bias at work, has lead a cause for diversity at work, been an ally and spoken up for POC at work)
Last year these awards were such a hit and we got to see and recognise some brilliant champions and legends at our Annual Gala and Awards night!
This year, Vineti Anand and I can't wait to read the nominations and be blown away by all the amazing stories of people who are walking the talk and making a difference for people of colour in Australia!
Nominations close at the end of September, so make sure you nominate all the awesome champions and legends you know here - https://lnkd.in/gTGHw6ww#peopleofcolour#professionals#awardsandrecognition

I'm honoured to be among the top 20 SME champs at the DivHersity Awards by HerKey (formerly JobsForHer)
Ever wonder what it means to make a difference? To me, it’s about doing things that help not just myself but also those around me. This idea hit home when I was named one of the Top 20 SME Champions by Thinkhall.
It's not just about what I achieve alone; it's about helping each other, learning together, and moving forward as a group. This belief is really important to me, and it's why I'm so touched by moments like these.
Getting recognized at the DivHersity Awards for the sixth time, in a new category too, shows how much we can do when we support one another, work hard, and share the same goals.
This award shows how powerful it is to be diverse, how we can grow by facing challenges, and what amazing things we can do when we all push together. It reminds us how crucial it is to make sure everyone feels welcome and important.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for having the chance to be part of a community that’s all about diversity, backing SMEs, and making a difference.
A huge high-five to my fellow winners, my team, and everyone else who’s been part of this adventure. This award is ours together.
Together, we’re not just changing things; we’re redefining what it means to lead with heart and hustle. There’s so much more we can do together, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. Let’s keep this energy up, shake things up, and create a future where everyone gets to win.

GreenSquareAccord has announced receiving 254 nominations for their Gold Star Awards, describing this as an impressive 42% increase over last year’s entries. However, this claim seems somewhat underwhelming, especially considering their workforce size and the upcoming expenditure for the awards ceremony.
To put this in perspective, with an employee base ranging between 1,000 and 5,000, the 254 nominations represent only about 5.08% to 25.4% of their total staff. Last year’s nominations, calculated to be around 179, indicate a low participation rate.
Moreover, it is important to note that these nominations are solely from staff members, with no input from customers or residents. This exclusion is disheartening, particularly considering the crucial role that customers and residents play in the organisation’s operations. Their feedback and recognition would provide a more comprehensive and authentic measure of performance and service quality.
When considering the costs associated with organising and hosting an awards ceremony, including logistics, venue, awards, and lost productivity, one must question the efficiency and impact of this exercise. The expenditure seems extravagant and not necessarily reflective of broad recognition across the organisation.
Given these figures and the lack of customer/resident involvement, it's crucial to consider whether the awards genuinely enhance morale and recognition or if they simply serve as a costly tradition with limited reach. In light of these numbers, the resources allocated to the Gold Star Awards might be better invested in more impactful employee and customer engagement initiatives, or better yet spent making the homes of their residents safe, warm and dry.
We’ve received 254 nominations for our Gold Star Awards, an impressive 42% increase on last year.
Our awards are an important opportunity for us to recognise and reward the colleagues and teams who go above and beyond and enable us provide a great service to our customers.
Our final ceremony will take place on Wednesday 3 July 2024. We can’t wait to crown our winners, good luck everyone!
Our world celebrates visibility and accolades...so it's easy to get caught up in the race for recognition.
but...
We must constantly remind ourselves that our best work emerges not from the desire for praise, but from the passion that fuels us from within.
When we focus on what genuinely excites us, we create & move with authenticity and purpose.
It is this intrinsic motivation that drives innovation, fosters resilience, and brings a profound sense of satisfaction that external validation can never replicate.
The most impactful projects I've worked on were those where my heart was fully invested.
It wasn’t about the awards or the applause; it was about the journey, the learning, and the sheer joy of creating something meaningful.
So...
• Shift your focus
• Dive into your passion
• and let the shine you have be a byproduct of your dedication and love for what you do.
